Beta Theta Pi is dedicated to building men of principle for a principled life through lifelong devotion to intellectual excellence, high standards of moral conduct, and responsible citizenship. The fraternity has more than 120,000 living members including some 5,800 collegians on nearly 130 campuses in the United States and Canada, and recently expanded to the JCU campus in the fall of 2007. Beta has already made a big splash, named as the 2008 Greek Organization of the Year, as well as winning the “Knox” Outstanding Chapter Award from our General National Fraternity of Beta Theta Pi in 2011 and 2013.

Beta stresses lifelong friendship, cultivation of the intellect, responsible leadership, responsible social conduct, and commitment to community through all of its activities. JCU initiated its founding fathers on January 13, 2008, and is now composed of 40 active members. Betas are widely known for their heavy involvement in campus activities. They engage the world by studying abroad and taking part in immersion experiences, give back to JCU through service, proudly represent the Blue Streaks on the athletic field, and hold some of the most high profile and coveted leadership positions on campus. Each fall, Beta Theta Pi helps sponsors “Through the Eyes of a Child” (along with the Arrupe Scholars program), a University-wide service event that puts on a “Christmas Day’s” worth of activities for local elementary students for the Cleveland Area. We also recently partnered with a new philanthropy, Dream Dayz of Cleveland.

The Ohio Upsilon chapter of the Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity finds themselves in their eleventh year at John Carroll University. Sigma Phi Epsilon was founded in 1901 on the campus of Richmond College, now the University of Richmond. The story of its founding by 12 determined men set the stage for the growth and success of one of the country’s premier fraternal organizations.

The history of the Fraternity reflects the times, through great wars and profound cultural shifts. Throughout the decades, the men of Sigma Phi Epsilon have practiced their values and embraced the stated desire of the Founders, “This Fraternity will be different”. The brothers pride themselves in creating the “Balanced Man” through four years of practicing the ideals of Sound Mind and Body.
