Center for Student Diversity and Inclusion (CSDI) received a grant in September 2020 from Cleveland Fenn Foundation. Our goal is to provide students with professional development opportunities through career-related workshops, micro-internships, and career exploration.

The Wayfinders program focuses on students who identify as:

  • First-generation
  • Coming from a low-socioeconomic background
  • Students with disabilities/neurodivergent (visible or invisible)
  • Students of color (BIPOC)
  • LGBTQ+ students

Our programs expand to 1:1 career help, resource closets, and networking opportunities for our students.

If you have any questions and/or requests, please reach out to Daniella Flores, the Program Coordinator, at dflores@jcu.edu.

What is a Micro-Internship?

Micro-internships are short-term, remote, or in-person experiences. Students can connect with professionals in their desired field to develop new knowledge and skills related to a career field of interest.

For students, this is a chance to explore a particular industry or career while gaining practical skills and developing their network. These are short-term, remote, and more flexible opportunities to gain experience than a traditional internship.

Some Example Projects:

After that, you can continue to check the platform regularly for new opportunities.

John Carroll University is closely monitoring the challenges associated with COVID-19 and its impact on student internships.  As such, the Center for Student Diversity and Inclusion would like to encourage our employer partners to consider posting short-term, professional projects (i.e., Micro-Internships), which can be completed remotely or locally in person. The Wayfinders Program will pay for your micro-intern.

Beyond providing you or your colleagues with immediate support on tasks, the short-term projects also support your talent recruiting and diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts. Micro-Internships help you identify, assess, and mentor students who may be prospective job candidates upon completion.

For students, Micro-Internships allow them to demonstrate their skills, explore career paths, and build relationships with prospective employers. These paid opportunities typically range from 20 to 40 hours of work.

Micro-Internships can be completed across all departments, including:

  • Sales/Marketing
  • Human Resources
  • Strategy
  • Research
  • Operations and Support (administrative roles)
  • Finance and Accounting
  • Information Technology Services
  • Education
  • Social Media
  • Content Creation
  • and more!
