Please join us in congratulating Maria Garcia-Olalla on her new role as Cleveland Council on World Affairs’ (CCWA) Program Associate for International Exchanges.  As you may remember, NPA alum Katie Ferman G’21, who is now Senior Project Lead of DPRK Counterproliferation at CRDF Global based in Washington, D.C., previously worked in the same program.

Maria is a 2020 John Carroll University alumni with a degree in International Relations and Political Science. She returned to start our program this fall.

Maria previously worked at CCWA as an International Visitors Fellow. She worked with young adults from Mexico, Taiwan, Ecuador, Venezuela, Peru, Ecuador, and Colombia. She also served as the Executive Coordinator at University Settlement.

As a new student last semester, but no stranger to John Carroll, Maria shared why she joined us and what she hopes to accomplish throughout her time as a graduate student here and beyond. Maria said, “I have really enjoyed meeting people that have the same passion for nonprofit work and helping others.”

She also expressed her excitement for more guest speakers and seasoned nonprofit professionals to continue sharing their expertise with the program.

As native of Spain, Maria’s interest in world cultures has always been vast, but her fellowship at CCWA is what led to her passion for helping others expand their global awareness. Maria hopes to facilitate dialogue and spark new ideas for international exchange participants and local Citizen Diplomats alike.

Maria joined the Nonprofit Administration Program to develop her leadership skills and expand on her knowledge of nonprofits.

Again, please join us in congratulating this unapologetic social justice leader on this exciting new role. We cannot wait to see what’s in store for Maria!
