John Carroll University officials today announced that Bernard Prusak, Ph.D., has been named the Raymond and Eleanor Smiley Chair in Business Ethics. Most recently, Dr. Prusak served as Professor of Philosophy and Director of the McGowan Center for Ethics and Social Responsibility at King's College in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania.
“Helping our students navigate the complexities of the corporate landscape with integrity, empathy, and a deep commitment to doing what is right is at the core of John Carroll University’s Jesuit mission,” said Dr. Elad Granot, Dean of the Boler College of Business. “Dr. Prusak’s passion for the field of business ethics will be a force multiplier for students studying business. We are thrilled to welcome him to our faculty and look forward to the many interdisciplinary collaborations that will occur thanks to his expertise.”
The goal of the Chair in Business Ethics is to bring students, business professionals, and faculty together to analyze and address ethical and social justice problems within the context of a global society.
The position was established in 2012 by Raymond Smiley ’51, and his wife, Eleanor. At the time, Smiley said, “Eleanor and I hope our gift will enable the university to further attract and retain the highest quality faculty and scholars and remind the academic world what an esteemed global, ethical business program predicated on nearly 500 years of Jesuit educational excellence should resemble.”
