A Celebration of Scholarship

A Presentation can be a:

• Poster
• A pre-recorded slide show with narration (PowerPoint, Prezi, iMovie, etc.)
• Musical, dance, or theatrical performance video
• Poetry or spoken word video presentation
• Any scholarly or creative video presentation

Poster submissions will be PDF files of the poster plus a short 3-5 minute video of the presenter(s) introducing the poster.

Celebration of Scholarship attendees will view the Presentations on the Symposium event website. All the Presentations will be organized in random order, but one can search and filter the entries by student name, discipline, or other descriptions.

Each Presentation allows attendees to leave questions and comments for the presenter(s) starting on April 4.

2022 Poster Competition:

As in previous years, there is an opportunity for students to enter their posters into the optional Poster Competition. Poster judges will be JCU faculty, staff, local community members, and guest judges, people with a wide variety of backgrounds and areas of expertise. The judging sessions will be held throughout the event, between April 4 and April 7.

Prizes:

• First prize: $200
• Second prize: $150
• Third prize: $100
• 4th - 10th prize: $50 each

Live Conference Sessions:

Live sessions will be held in person on the JCU campus. At this time, we are planning to live-stream each session so attendees can enjoy the sessions remotely.

Speakers may choose to hold their session remotely via Zoom if they are uncomfortable with the in-person format. 

Each session should be organized around a central theme or topic. They may include individual speakers or a panel discussion format.

Each session will be 75 minutes long, so the number of speakers should be adjusted to allow for each speaker to present and field questions from the audience. A moderator will introduce each speaker, help field questions from the audience, and generally organize the presentation order.

Applications will be accepted for complete sessions only, ideally organized around a central theme. Only one application is required for each group of speakers. We urge groups of speakers to submit their session applications early so they can be added to the schedule. Revisions (adding/deleting speakers, changing the order, other edits) will be allowed after an application is submitted.

Individual students who want to present are urged to speak to their instructors or advisors about joining an existing session. However, if individual speakers need assistance in joining a session, please email the organizers at celebration@jcu.edu. We will help place you in a panel, but there is no guarantee that the other speakers will be presenting on a related topic or area of study.  

Arts at Night

Arts at Night, the annual celebration of the arts at John Carroll, invites all poets, storytellers, and musicians to read, recite, or perform in a LIVE, open-mic environment!
