Schweickert Outstanding Achievement Award in Athletics is named in for a man whose achievements as a player and student at John Carroll have only exceeded by his achievements as coach and educator of the University. The awards purpose is to recognize a John Carroll University graduate who has brought honor to his or her school through a significant lifetime achievement within the field of athletics outside of the Blue Streak varsity athletic program.
A versatile star on the gridiron, Schweickert earned all-league honors both as a quarterback and as a halfback. After devoting nearly 35 years in a variety of coaching and teaching roles, including athletic director, head football coach, founder of the baseball program and head baseball coach, Dr. Schweickert became Coordinator of Physical Education and Exercise Science.
