Applications: the online application is due to by April 15 for the fall semester and by October 1 for the spring semester. Before beginning the application online, please prepare the following documents to upload with your application:

  • Transcripts in English,
  • TOEFL or IELTS scores (if applicable)
  • Official nomination letter from home University,
  • Passport information and photo page,
  • GDPR Consent Form for citizens of the European Union, and
  • Financial Guarantee Statement and supporting documentation such as a bank statement.

To apply as an exchange student, students must be nominated by their home institution. Nomination deadlines for the fall semester are April 1, and for the spring semester September 15. 

Direct Cost for 2023-2024: US$7,950 to $9,600 per semester (variation due to choice in room and meal plan)

Accommodations and Dining: Exchange students are guaranteed on-campus housing designated for second or third year students. Each room is equipped with a bed, desk, and dresser and each residence hall has a communal kitchen and laundry facility. All students choose a meal plan, and on-campus dining options include Schott Dining Hall, Starbucks coffee, and the Inn Between for later dining.

Campus Life:

Location: John Carroll University is located in the suburb of University Heights, about 16 km from the city of Cleveland, Ohio. A Located on the shores of Lake Erie, Cleveland is the heart of a thriving metropolitan area. Home to the Cleveland Orchestra, the Cleveland Museum of Art, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum, a number of theatre ensembles, including the Cleveland Play House and Great Lakes Shakspeare Festival, dance companies, and a thriving film scene, Cleveland is a cultural magnet. Its lively theatre district at Playhouse Square is the country’s largest performing arts complex outside of New York City. Cleveland is also a sports town, with Major League Baseball (The Cleveland Indians), NFL Football (the Cleveland Browns), and NBA Basketball (the Cleveland Cavaliers). Cleveland Hopkins International Airport is less than a 30 minute ride from campus, and you can travel to cities like New York City, Boston, Washington DC, Chicago, Miami, and Atlanta in less than three hours.

International Student Services:

  • Exchange Buddy Program, which pairs incoming students with JCU students who have studied abroad;
  • Arrival assistance to include shopping trip shuttle and 3-day orientation program;
  • Residence hall essentials (bedding, hangers, etc.) are available to borrow at no charge; and
  • Events and local trips throughout semester.
