Mike Cleary Program in Sports Studies

Major and Track Requirements

Sports Studies is a 45 semester hour program.  Candidates will receive in-depth preparation for careers in sports and sports-related positions in such areas as sports administration and management, coaching, fitness, wellness and recreation for diverse populations.   The curriculum will focus on administration, management, program development and implementation, leadership and working with diverse populations.  In addition to the coursework candidates for the Sports Studies major will gain breadth of knowledge through field experiences during the first three years, and depth of knowledge as a senior through an internship related to personal and professional career goals.

The Sports Studies major is composed of 24 hours of core courses, 6 hours of electives, and 15 hours of coursework within a specific area of concentration, e.g., Sports and Athletic Administration; Coaching and Recreation; and Sports, Fitness and Wellness for Diverse Populations.  Candidates selecting a major in Sports Studies are encouraged to consider a minor in an area that will enhance career and graduate school opportunities, such as, Business, Entrepreneurship, Exercise Science, Communications, or Psychological Science.
