“Ohio Campus Compact, a non-profit membership organization of 43 Ohio colleges and universities today announced John Carroll University students Edward (Ned) Barnes and Michael Gong (nominated jointly)… have been awarded 2014 Charles J. Ping Student Service Legacy Award mini-grants. The annual award recognizes and honors undergraduate students for their outstanding leadership and contributions to community service or service-learning on their campus and within their community.

The Charles J. Ping Student Service Award recognition is granted annually to one undergraduate per Ohio Campus Compact member institution.  Students nominated to be a Charles J. Ping Student Service Award winner compete with other nominees from across the state for a $250 Legacy Award mini grant, to be given to a nonprofit organization of the winners’ choice.  The Legacy Award mini grants are sponsored by Ohio Campus Compact and Rotaract District 6690.

“Ned [and] Michael… represent the next generation of civic leaders and problem solvers,” stated Richard Kinsley, Executive Director of Ohio Campus Compact.  “Their level of commitment and dedication to serving others while balancing busy lives as undergraduates is truly inspirational.  These students are shining examples of all that is great about their generation.”"
