Joseph Miller has served John Carroll in a number of ways. He is a member of the Tim Russert Department of Communications and Theatre Arts, served was chair of the department, and has received the University award for teaching, advising, and research, the Distinguished Faculty Award. During the 1975-76 school year he was appointed to the President’s Executive Exchange program in Washington, D.C., and he worked in the planning staff for higher education in the (then) U.S. Office of Education.
Now he is also the director of the Summer Sessions for JCU. Previously he served JCU as Associate Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences and acting dean of the Graduate School. While holding administrative posts, he was chair of the Physics Department and, later, the Philosophy Department. Outside JCU, he has consulted for area business organizations in the area of business and professional speaking, and he is a peer reviewer for the Commission on Higher Education, the accrediting body for the North Central Association, chairing teams of accreditors at institutions in the midwest states. He has presented papers in communications, administration, and accrediting issues.
