Expertise: Television performance, film, media effects
Greetings, thanks for visiting my page. I’ve been at JCU since 1985 and teach courses in television performance, film, and media effects. I also direct the Graduate Program in Communication Management and the Historical Film Archives. I’m co-author of a popular text in broadcast performance. It’s a thrill to find your work being used all over the country and in Canada and England.
I’m an upstate New Yorker who got his Bachelor’s and Master’s from the State University of New York at Albany and my Ph.D. from Ohio State. Worked in broadcasting and cable for 23 years, doing everything from sweeping floors to managing. Most of the time was spent as a writer, producer, and director. Spent quite a bit of time in film production and did some on-camera work too. Got to do my first film while still in high school. Won a few awards along the way.
Planned to become a college teacher while still in my 20s, but wanted a TV career first. It actually worked out that way. JCU has some very nice facilities, with very much of a hands-on philosophy. We’ve had many grads go into media jobs and to film schools as well.
