Dedicated on February 23, 1991, the Ralph Vince Fitness Center and the Tom Corbo Training Center--more commonly known as the Corbo Fitness Center--round out the indoor recreational opportunities for students, faculty/staff, alumni, and the community. Newly renovated in Fall 2020, this state-of-the-art fitness center offers brand new cardio equipment such as treadmills, steppers, ellipticals, and bikes, as well as strength equipment including dumbbells, Olympic racks/platforms, and selectorized strength machine. 

Fall 2020 Renovation
With support from JCU Student Government, the Corbo Fitness Center underwent a complete renovation in Fall 2020. The project included adding approximately 1,000 square feet to the existing space, updating the facility's structure and layout, upgrading technology, and replacing almost all cardio and strength equipment.

Newly renovated in Fall 2019, the Fitness Studio offers students, faculty/staff, alumni, and the community a great space for functional fitness and group fitness classes. When group fitness is not taking place, the Fitness Studio is open for drop-in use during normal RecPlex operating hours.

Fall 2019 Renovation With support from JCU Student Government, the Fitness Studio was created in Fall 2019 with an intentional focus on functional fitness, group fitness classes, and making the location more accessible. The project included converting two racquetball courts into a 1,600 square foot fitness studio, upgrading technology, and investing in new equipment.

Group Fitness Overview

The group fitness program is a welcoming, inclusive, and friendly environment that encourages participants to exercise in a fun group environment. A variety of classes are taught by student and non-student instructors and are design to improve strength, endurance, flexibility, and balance. Classes are free to all current Department of Recreation members and take place in the new Fitness Studio located on the first floor of the RecPlex near the IM Gym and Varsity Gym.

Class Descriptions

Cycling
This indoor cycling class will burn mega-calories while toning your legs all over. (This class is limited to 19 participants on a first come, first serve basis)

Ground & Center Yoga
A yoga class concentrated on working with poses that ground (mainly focusing on the first chakra and spinal twists). Occasional use of pranayama depending on practitioners.

PiYo
Define yourself and look long and lean with no weights and no jumps. Combines the muscle sculpting, core firming benefits of pilates with the strength and flexibility of yoga. Crank up the music and the fun with this calorie burning workout. All levels welcome.

POUND Fitness
A combination of cardio and weight training exercise approach that includes some of the rhythmic techniques used in Pilates. Colorful, light-weight drumsticks called ripstix are used to add an element of fun to POUND classes while they help exercisers count out the length of time they hold certain positions. 

Power Yoga
This class focuses on furthering the foundational skills that apply to any other yoga class, style, or level. Expect more flowing sequences, stamina building, and peaking postures to enhance your yoga practice.

Recharge & Rebalance Yoga
A yoga class based around spinal twists and balance poses with energizing short vinyasas and breath work.

Restore & Renew Yoga
A restorative yoga class with occasional, initial, qigong and vinyasa to release and open…but mainly restorative poses with bolsters and blankets.

Vinyasa Flow Yoga
Students move consistently from pose to pose while incorporating the principles of pose alignment, the practice of personal awareness, and the breath!

Zumba
Zumba fuses hypnotic Latin rhythms and easy to follow moves to create a dynamic fitness program that will blow you away.
