MICHAEL D. JOHNSON, PH.D.

25th President of John Carroll University

"The passion that the students, faculty, staff, and alumni have for John Carroll is inspiring, and I am grateful for the opportunity to lead this community.

As one of 28 Jesuit colleges and universities in the country, John Carroll University is poised for growth with many distinctive programs and an exceptional faculty and staff."

I was drawn to John Carroll University because of its dedication to inspiring and educating men and women for and with others, who leave this place with the intellectual competence, ethical commitments, and sense of compassion to make the world a better place. Continued support of this mission will require us to address the challenges that higher education faces today. Our goal, though, is not just to survive these challenges, but to thrive as an institution.

As one of only 28 Jesuit universities in the U.S., it is clear to me that our Jesuit Catholic heritage is a distinct advantage. I am committed, as President, to ensuring that future generations of Blue Streaks understand: the importance of a liberal arts education grounded in the humanities, the meaning of “a faith that does justice,” and how seeking the Magis involves choosing the greater good.

My wife, Jill, and I are excited to become members of both the John Carroll and greater Cleveland communities. I look forward to meeting and working with you in the months and years to come as we advance our programs, develop our distinctiveness, and thrive as an academic institution in the Jesuit tradition.
