Who can participate in the Saint Ignatius of Loyola Plaza Project?

  • John Carroll faculty, staff, students, alumni, and friends can have their name placed in the Saint Ignatius Plaza.

What will my purchase support?

  • Once the costs of construction are covered, any additional net revenues will support Campus Ministry.

Is my contribution tax deductible?

  •  Yes, the entire gift to buy a Saint Ignatius Plaza commemorative piece to support Campus Ministry is a charitable gift.

How much does each brick cost to name?

  • $125: one four-inch by eight-inch brick paver.
  • $1,886: one 16-inch by 16-inch brick paver.

Do I have to pay in one lump sum or can I make payments over time?

  • All items must be paid for in one lump sum at the time of purchase.
  • However, exclusively for John Carroll University employees we offer the option of payroll deduction payment, with payment in full completed by 12/31/2013. If you are interested in payroll deduction, please contact Christine Anderson at or 216.397.1588.

How much do the larger pieces of the plaza cost to name?

  • $3,000: one bench (four sets of three seat-benches are available).**SOLD**

May I get a group together to contribute jointly to buy a brick, paver, bench, etc.?

  • Yes. Groups that wish to receive either a charitable contribution receipt for each participant, or to have each participant recognized in John Carroll’s Honor Roll of Donors, should obtain the group contribution form from Christine Anderson at

Can I order a brick without placing my order online?

  • There is a limited number of bricks and pavers available. In order to ensure that your order is received properly, we encourage online ordering. If you have questions or concerns regarding online credit card ordering, or have special ordering needs, please call Christine Anderson at 216.397.1588 to place your credit card order.

How do I order more than one brick?

  • Each brick must be separately ordered. We require each order to be submitted separately to ensure that each brick is properly engraved. Having separate orders for each product will guarantee that the donors’ brick(s) will be sectioned properly and he or she will be informed of the location of each. There will be no guarantee these bricks will be placed together.

How will I receive the tax information necessary to claim this gift on my tax return?

  • Proceeds from brick purchases are charitable gifts to JCU. All donors will receive a letter from the University indicating their tax benefit on 100% of the purchase price.

I ordered a brick and wish to cancel it. Can I do this?

  • All brick order sales are final and orders cannot be canceled or refunded.

Who owns the brick?

  • John Carroll University is proud to offer the opportunity to install your personalized brick(s) on campus. These bricks are meant to showcase the honor, support, and memories of alumni and friends of JCU. Because of this, your purchased paver will become the property of John Carroll University and cannot be removed by the purchaser for any reason.

How much text can fit on each brick?

  • The four-inch by eight-inch brick paver can fit up to three lines with 18 characters in each line.
  • The 16-inch by 16-inch brick paver can fit up to eight lines with 18 characters in each line.
  • Each letter, number, punctuation mark, and space counts as one character.

How will the text be formatted?

  • All text will be capitalized and all lines will be centered both vertically and horizontally.

Can images or symbols be included?

  • Images cannot be included, however Greek letters and ampersands (&) are allowed.

What process is used to engrave the bricks?

  • Bricks will be engraved using the most up-to-date engraving technology available. Laser engraving is a process that creates the most permanent and durable inscription. Utilizing this process will ensure that your words will withstand the test of time, allowing you to return season after season to see your personalized sponsorship.

I’ve already placed my order. Can I change the text?

  • These are custom orders. Please review your online order carefully. Once you have submitted your order, no changes can be made. University Advancement will review all submissions and possible errors will be brought to your attention.

Can I choose the color of my brick?

  • No. Due to the nature of the project and the ordering process, we cannot accept color requests.

If I buy a 16-inch by 16-inch paver, will I be able to add text at a later date if I wish?

  • No. Once a paver is purchased, it is a permanent addition to the Saint Ignatius Plaza.

Can I personalize anything other than the bricks?

  • Yes. All items that are available for purchase can be personalized.

Can I request a specific location?

  • Due to the nature of the installation process, we cannot accept specific requests of this type.

How long after I purchase my brick will it be installed?

  • Because the Murphy Hall project starting summer of 2013 includes heavy construction equipment on campus, the new Saint Ignatius of Loyola Plaza project will be temporarily postponed and is planned for summer 2014.
  • Sections will be identified and engraved bricks will be installed once the individual section has enough orders to fill it. Bricks will be installed during good weather and as orders are received.

How will I be able to find my brick(s)?

  • Once your brick has been installed, JCU will send an email to the address provided in your order with the approximate location of your brick.

How can I find my brick if I lost my locator map?

  • Once construction is completed, locator maps will be available on the third floor of Rodman Hall during business hours.
