Peace, Justice and Human Rights

We see peace as inseparable from justice and the extension of human rights as a fundamental ethical obligation.

The Peace, Justice, and Human Rights Program is consistent with John Carroll University’s mission statement to which this institution dedicates itself:

  • “to inspire individuals to excel in learning, leadership, and service in the region and in the world”; and
  • to prepare students “to engage in responsible social action,” and it is consonant with the Jesuit idea of “cultivating moral concern about how people ought to live.”

Our diverse group of faculty members (representing eight different academic departments) has constructed a distinctive component of student learning through this essential interdisciplinary program.

One of the jewels of our program is the Peacebuilding Institute, a two-week trip to Northern Ireland and Ireland. Here’s a video that one student made of the journey:
