Check In / Check Out
Check in is on the first day of New Student Orientation from 9:30-10:30 a.m. in the Schott Atrium of the D.J. Lombardo Student Center.
This is your chance for personal attention from our Orientation Staff. We will break into small groups during the day and you will be able to discuss anything that is on your mind concerning college. Not only will you be meeting other new students, but you’ll be getting acquainted with the University as well.
Academic advising is an integral part of your education at JCU. We focus on creating an academic advising relationship that helps students to plan a strategy to complete their coursework in a timely manner while ensuring that they take advantage of all that JCU has to offer. Students will be assigned a summer orientation academic advisor according to their area of interest. This person will be a resource in scheduling classes and adjusting to academic life here at Carroll. Please contact the Office of the Assistant Provost for Academic Advising and Student Services to answer any of your questions at 216.397.4219.
College 101 is a set of skits about college life for both students and parents written and performed by the Orientation Staff. The skits present a real life look at situations students may encounter throughout their college career. At the end of this program the Orientation Staff will answer any questions that members of the audience may have.
The social activities are a great way for you to continue meeting other new students. We offer an array of activities including basketball, volleyball, dancing, or just hanging out.
Foreign Language Placement Testing
All students will take a placement test in the language you previously studied. Please note that if you do well on the placement test, you may reduce your required number of language classes or test out completely. if you have studied more than one language, you will take the test in the language you are most likely to continue in college. You will be welcome to take tests in any additional languages once you come back to campus in August.
Campus Resource Fair
You will have the opportunity to visit with faculty, staff, and administrators from various campus offices and departments as well as representatives from numerous Cleveland institutions, restaurants, and attractions. The Resource Fair takes place on the first day of Orientation, allowing students and families the ability to discover more about JCU and the surrounding community before departing campus and to get all of your questions answered!
Fall Course Registration
At the conclusion of orientation, students will have a schedule of their fall courses in hand. Now it’s official…you are a first year student at JCU!
