University Heights, OH — John Carroll University is among 115 U.S. colleges and universities selected by The Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching for its 2010 Community Engagement Classification.

The public announcement, released today, noted that, in order to be selected, colleges and universities had to provide descriptions and examples of institutionalized practices of community engagement that showed alignment among mission, culture, leadership, resources and practices.

John Carroll’s commitment to teaching social responsibility is exemplified in a variety of academic and civic venues under the direction of many campus organizations, including: the Center for Service and Social Action; Campus Ministry; the Center for Global Education (Study Abroad/Exchange program); Arrupe Scholars for Social Action; and the Poverty and Solidarity Initiative.
