Alyssa Harford, a senior from Solon, Ohio, came to JCU wanting to pursue an education in mathematics with some training in computer science. Enjoying her CS classes as much as math, she decided to double major. Earning a degree in either of these areas is challenging enough but earning degrees in both with honors status is exceptional, since only four students have achieved this distinction previously. Because of this, Alyssa has also received the Academic Achievement in Computer Science Award. A member of Pi Mu Epsilon, the national mathematics honor society and serving this year as president of our chapter, Alyssa has also served the department as a tutor for both Math and CS students. She brings a positive attitude, sense of fun, and an impressive level of organization to the classroom and the workplace. She secured summer internships in the computer technology business at Goodyear and in software development at Hyland Software, where she was able to apply and refine the skills she has learned from her coursework. After graduation she will be working at Hyland Software and has been accepted into and will be continuing her education in John Carroll’s MBA program.
