In 2001, the night before Commencement, John Carroll senior Michael Mansmann tragically passed away in a house fire. Michael majored in Communications and had a passion for writing. During his years on campus, he wrote for the Carroll News and he also crafted short stories and poems. Described as a sensitive but gregarious young man, Michael worked at an Irish pub, where he was reportedly perceived as having notable ability to engage with charm and anecdotes the people he encountered. A native of Washington, Pennsylvania, Michael is survived by his mother and his father; by a brother, six sisters, two grandmothers, and nieces and nephews.
