Spring 2017

Happy spring, friends. I’m happy to say I have all good news to share. Hopefully, you’ve heard about JCU’s many connections to the Super Bowl this year. Congrats to our classmate and former football player Jesse Ackerman ’07G, who was on one sideline as the head strength and conditioning coach for the Atlanta Falcons.

Kate (Morrissy) and Dave Galise live in Naperville, Illinois, with their two boys, Matthew (5) and Will (2). Kate started a new job teaching eighth-grade English language arts at All Saints Catholic Academy in Naperville. She said it’s difficult to believe she’s in her 13th year of teaching. I think a lot of us can relate to the feeling now that we’ve been in our careers for quite some time.

Brad ’03, ’07G and Jenny (Kelley) Piroli moved to Hudson, Ohio, last summer after being in Pittsburgh for four years. Brad is the VP of land acquisition for the Pulte Group. Jenny and Brad just welcomed their third child, a baby girl named Charlotte, on Feb. 13. She joins her brother, Tyler, and sister, Paige.

I also heard the brothers of Iota Chi Upsilon had a reunion at homecoming in October, bringing back 250 former members. David Rothstein attended. The IXY scholarship is more than $1.3 million and racing toward $2 million in endowments.

Finally, as many of you know, I live in Rochester, New York, and I’m excited to share that JCU now has an official alumni chapter here. We’ve had fun events including a happy hour, cocktail reception, and cooking demonstration. It’s been wonderful to connect with so many area alumni. If you’re in Rochester, keep an eye out for information about future events on our Facebook page. Keep the updates coming. It’s always great to hear from you.

Winter 2017

Hi, everyone. I have exciting updates to share. Dan Ernstberger and his wife, Sarah, welcomed their second child, a beautiful girl named Charlotte (Charley) Reese, on Dec. 5, 2016. Charley joins older brother Finley Jackson (FJ), who turned 2 on Dec. 15. The Ernstbergers live in Estero, Florida, where Dan works at the world headquarters for Hertz Global. Frank and Megan (Macho) Percaciante live in Independence, Ohio, with their four girls: Mia, Madeline, Sophia, and Francesca. Frank had a busy year as a controller for The Garland Company. Megan has taken on her busiest, most important role yet – stay-at-home mom. The Percaciantes wish everyone a happy and healthy new year.

Jen (Schmidt) Wise was promoted to senior vice president of resource development at Habitat for Humanity of Greater Los Angeles. In November, Jen and her husband, Ryan, got a puppy, Cali.

Mike and Ashlee (Rager) Lake’s house has been busy. Ashlee graduated from Maryville University in August with a family nurse practitioner certificate. She was board certified on Nov. 1 and is interviewing for NP jobs near Columbus, Ohio. Ashlee’s husband, Michael, was promoted to detective for the Newark Police Department. Their twin girls, Emma and Lilly (10), competed in the Mid-America Oireachtas (regionals) for Irish dance. Cooper (6) had a featured role as Rudolph in the Celtic Nutcracker, and he keeps busy with soccer and basketball.

Finally, I hope you’re looking forward to celebrating our 15-year reunion (Yes, 15 years!) June 23-25. As George Sample ’12G shared, “Friends don’t let friends miss reunion.” So encourage classmates to return to campus for the weekend. Also, there’s a committee planning a class event for Friday night, and they’d love your involvement. Please email me for details. It’s great hearing from you and having the privilege to share your news with our classmates. Keep the updates coming.

Fall 2016
Hi, everyone. I hope you had a wonderful, fun summer. It went by quickly, didn’t it? My family was lucky to spend a weekend staying with Laura Ley and Jeff Carlson and their two awesome kids in Pittsburgh.

Scott and I also went on an enjoyable trip to Chicago with Angie (Sabatini) and Jim Milks to celebrate our 10th wedding anniversaries.

I’m hoping to see Ben and Joelle (Lindner) Schnelle this fall to meet sweet Anna Reese Schnelle, who was born on May 27, 2016. The couple continues to reside in the Denver area, but I’m hoping to catch up with them and meet Anna during one of their trips to Pittsburgh.

In other baby news, Jackie and Ryan Anderson welcomed their third child, Bode Scott Anderson, who joins siblings Isla and Ari.

I heard from Jason Codispoti ’04G. He and his wife, Kim (Kleisley) ’05G also have three children. Arianna is 5, Tyler is 3, and Evan Thomas was born October 4, 2015, so he’s a year old.

Mandy (Jarosz) ’04G and Brian English ’00, ’01G continue to run their company of digital decor called 4walls.com. Brian is president, and Mandy is VP. While Mandy is part time, her full-time job is raising their three kids. After many losses, the family’s newest addition is their amazing adopted baby, Grace. She was born May 16, 2016, and in their arms on May 21, 2016. They’re so in love.

In May, David Rothstein joined the Cities for Financial Empowerment Fund as a principal leading their Bank On national platform to help cities and states form financial empowerment work. He and his family live in Cleveland.

Angela Flowers, who owns a youth educational company called Making A Difference Consulting, wrote a children’s book, “Footprints in the Sky,” that chronicles the love and memories a young girl has of her father. The book can be purchased through Amazon or makingadifferenceconsulting.com or checked out of the Euclid and Cleveland Public Libraries.

Dave Lucas was named the inaugural writer-in-residence at the Cuyahoga County Public Library. After JCU, Dave attended the University of Virginia (MFA 2004) and the University of Michigan (Ph.D. 2014). He’s won many awards for his poetry. He also teaches at the James Madison University Creative Writing Conference, the John Carroll Young Writers Workshop, and the Cleveland Clinic Program in Medical Humanities.

That’s all for now. Remember, 2017 is our reunion year, so save the date – June 23-25.

Winter 2016
Hello, everyone. I apologize that I didn’t have a column last issue. I’m happy to have updates to share with you now. I was lucky enough to travel to Cancun, Mexico, in September to attend the wedding of Ben and Joelle (Lindner) Schnelle. Classmates Laura Ley Carlson and Lauren (Gambatese) Petrello also made the trip, along with many of Joelle and Ben’s family members and friends. The wedding was beautiful, and the whole trip was wonderful. Joelle and Ben live in the Denver area. Joelle, Lauren, Laura, and I also traveled to Nashville in May for a great girls’ trip. We enjoyed exploring the city’s honky-tonks and restaurants while catching up with each other. Angie (Sabatini) Milks was supposed to join us for our long weekend, but she couldn’t because she was busy. Angie and her husband, Jim, welcomed Andrew James Milks to the world on May 28, through the beauty of adoption. Andy joins his big sister Lidia, who adores her baby brother. The Milkses made the trek from Hinckley, Ohio, to Rochester, New York, to visit my family Halloween weekend. We had a blast with all of the kids and Halloween festivities.

In baby news, I heard from Michael Spangler ’05G and Maria Haller-Spangler, who welcomed their first child, Roman Theodore, on July 17, 2015. Roman weighed in at a very healthy 11 pounds, nine ounces at birth. Mount Union, watch out in 2033! Michael is a senior manager at Maloney + Novotny, an accounting firm, and Maria is the director of community engagement at Sherwin-Williams.

Kristen Netschke married Christopher Andrew Wheeler in September in the mountains of North Carolina at Lonesome Valley. Kristen is the director of operations at Quantum Health in Columbus, Ohio, and her husband is the director of human resources at Abercrombie & Fitch.
