Griswold

A civic leader
Sally Kenny Griswold ’76G, ’88H, the first woman elected to JCU’s board of trustees in 1971, became the first woman to chair the trustees and did so from 1980 to 1983. After raising four children (one daughter and three sons), she taught as a substitute in Shaker Heights city schools and served two terms on the school board. She became a vital part of numerous civic organizations and won many awards, including the first Volunteer of the Year award from the Ohio Council of Fund Raising Executives, the Margaret A. Ireland award from the Woman’s City Club, and the Centennial Medal and honorary doctorate degree from John Carroll. Griswold, who received the Alumni Medal in 1996, served on a committee for the Council on Foundations, a national philanthropic organization. The wife of the late Bruce Griswold, she was a grandmother of 12 and great-grandmother of eight. The Griswolds supported The Cleveland Foundation, where Sally served on various committees. She passed away April 10.
