Bausch

Bausch

Committed to Catholic higher education
Tom Bausch ’60, Ph.D., dean emeritus of Marquette’s College of Business Administration, passed away July 17 as a result of a heart attack after returning to Milwaukee from the International Association of Jesuit Business Schools (IAJBS), an organization he co-founded and led for years.

Bausch explored the relationship of Catholic social thought and business and established academic forms to address Catholic, mission-driven business education. His leadership enabled the International Conferences on Catholic Social Thought and Business Education to form. His faith, vision, leadership, and courage fostered a serious engagement on the importance of Catholic business education and the vocation of the business leader.

Bausch, who had a distinguished career centered on working with Jesuit universities and the Jesuit order throughout the world, held positions at John Carroll and Bradley universities before becoming dean of the business school at Marquette from 1978 to 1993. He continued teaching at Marquette until 2010. Among other leadership positions, he served as president of the American Assembly of Collegiate Schools of Business, executive director of IAJBS, president of the World Union of Jesuit Alumni, and national president of Christian Life Community.

Greatly invested in the development and education of his eight children and 17 grandchildren, Bausch – and his wife, Bernadine – took great pride in all their accomplishments. His commitment to his Catholic faith inspired and motivated him personally and professionally. Bausch was a lector and longtime member of the parish council at St. Bernard in Wauwatosa. He served on the boards of several Milwaukee-area companies and civic organizations including the Next Door Foundation, the Rotary Club of Milwaukee, the Heartland Value Fund, and Blue Cross Blue Shield United of Wisconsin. A lover of the arts, he also enjoyed the symphony, opera, ballet, and gourmet cooking.
