Man of the law
Thomas F. Bridgman ’55 was the husband of Patsy and father of Thomas, Molly, Kathleen ’83, Ann Harnett ’86, and Jane Rodriguez ’87. He died Dec. 19 in his home after a long illness. An avid golfer known for his playful wit, Bridgman was the former chairman and executive with the international law firm Baker & McKenzie. After graduating from Carroll, he returned to Chicago and enrolled in the Loyola University School of Law, from which he graduated in 1958. Then he joined Baker & McKenzie and became one of four original members of the firm’s litigation department. He served as chairman of the department and was elected to the firm’s executive committee. After his retirement from law, Bridgman became the first chairman of the board of the Little Company of Mary Hospital Foundation. He also was president of Beverly Country Club and a former John Carroll trustee.

Active alum
Charles A. Beringer III ’75, who worked in exporting most of his career, was an avid photographer, amateur astronomer, gardener, and Trivial Pursuit player. A lifelong resident of Northeast Ohio, he founded the Richard Decker Scholarship Fund, which has sent many deserving children to Camp Falcon in Leesville, Ohio. While at Carroll, he was senior class president and member of Iota Chi Upsilon. He received the Alumni Service Award and later the Alumni Medal in 2003. He remained active with the University. Beringer, who passed away Dec. 25, 2011, was 58. He’s survived by his father and brothers, Robert ’80 and Daniel ’81.

Supporter of the Society
In 2004, Richard D. Ennen ’51 was named a founder of the former Detroit Province by Father General Peter-Hans Kolvenbach. His largess to the Society of Jesus was extraordinary. Ennen helped the province’s mission substantially at Colombiere Center, Loyola High School in Dar es Salaam (Africa), Loyola High School in Detroit, JCU, the Jesuit School of Theology at Berkeley in California, and the missions, as well as other campaigns of the Society. Ennen, who died Jan. 18, 2012, was 84.
