CLASS OF 2017 LEADERSHIP SCHOLARS

Mitchell Comport is an accounting and finance double major. He is involved in campus ministry,crossfit club, intramural sports, and is a member of both the Accounting Association and AlphanKappa Psi business fraternity of the Boler School of Business.

 Ciara Crossey is a freshman with an intended double major of Journalism and Public Relations. In high school, she was President of the Jr. LAOH, Community Relations Director of the St. Ignatius Scholars Program, a Eucharistic minister at Bishop Canevin High School, and leader of the Bishop Canevin chapter of Junior Achievement. She has a passion for volunteerism and is looking forward to all that John Carroll has to offer.

Bobby Exler is a Chemistry and Business Administration double major. He was an officer with his high school’s National Honor Society chapter, one of the senior leaders of the FTC robotics team 3750, and was a captain of the Cross Country team. Bobby also was a three-sport varsity letterman in Cross Country, Indoor Track, and Baseball.

Laura Gagliano is an incoming freshman who is planning to major in Business Communications. While attending Williamsville East High School in her hometown of Buffalo, New York, she was involved in activities including National Honor Society, Varsity Lacrosse, FBLA, and many service projects.

Brent Gibala-Broxholm is studying business and graduated from Gananda High School in Walworth, NY, as a member of the National Honor Society and New York State Math Honor Society.  He has received many academic awards, won an investor panel competition, and was able to compete at a national level for the Young Entrepreneur’s Academy.

Jennifer Grant is  from King’s School, Bruton in the United Kingdom and is an International scholar. She has been a Staff Sergeant in the school CCF, Deputy Head of House in her boarding school, Captain of the 2nd XV Netball team and has played major roles in Drama productions , both on stage and behind the scenes.

Andrew Harrington is a freshman who is planning to major in biochemistry. He graduated from Cathedral Preparatory School in Erie, PA, while at Cathedral Prep he was Editor & Chief of the yearbook. He was on the honor roll for 4 years, a member of the National Honors Society, and had a Dual College Enrollment at Gannon University in Erie, PA. He was active as a youth group leader, Eucharistic minister, and participated in many theatrical productions as well as a member of the International Thespian Society.

Patrick Hiznay is a Mathematics and Finance double major.  He was Student Council President, a member of National Honors Society, graduated with an Ohio Honors Diploma, and was Captain of Team Matt at Poland Relay for Life.  He also played football and ran track in high school.

Foster King  is planning on majoring in Computer Science. He is a member of the John Carroll soccer team. In High School he was an officer of the SADD organization (Students Against Destructive Decisions), and a member of the Leadership Council for his school. Outside of school he is a summer camp counselor and works for his local Recreation Center.

Haley Kocisko is an Education major with a Mathematics concentration. She brings with her over one hundred hours of completed community service.  She looks forward to the experiences she will gain in future immersion trips and service projects sponsored by JCU.  After playing select basketball for eight years and being an assistant coach for three years, she plans to maintain her love of sports through the many intramural teams.  She is proud to be a part of the Blue Streak community and looks forward to the many opportunities to become a part over the next four years.

Emily Koeritzer is currently undecided on what she will major in at John Coll. In addition to having a  love for both theatre and music, Emily also is a leader for the youth group, lectors, and is a Eucharistic Minister at her home parish.

Catherine Looby is a Girl Scout and a Gold Award recipient since the summer of 2011. Formerly the section leader of her high school band, member of the Red Cross and International, and Glee clubs, and church choir, she looks forward to her freshman year at John Carroll University.

Mary Frances McGowan is a Journalism and Political Science double major. She plans to be involved with The Carroll News, the LABRE Project and Campus Ministry.

Emily Mitchell is currently a babysitter for seven different families in her hometown of Strongsville, Ohio. When she is not singing Dora the Explorer songs or dreaming up treasure hunts for toddlers, she hits the books to prepare for her psychology major. Emily enjoys sipping fresh-brewed tea while writing in her journal, painting with watercolors, or reading her favorite series, Harry Potter, for the twelfth time.

Morgan Osheka is a freshman wanting to major in Communications/Journalism. Having graduated from Our Lady of the Sacred Heart High School in Pittsburgh, PA, she has been a member of the National Honors Society, a Student Ambassador and a Peer Helper, and was Assistant Director of Pep and co-director of Student Alliance. She has also enjoyed performing in her high school’s annual Christmas plays and spring musicals.

Elizabeth Posney is from Freeport, PA and is a chemistry major at John Carroll.  She is a member of the honors program and the JCU cheerleading squad, and she hopes to become involved with service activities on and off campus.

Steven Schmitz is a recent South Carroll high school graduate looking to earn a degree in business and management. He graduated as a well-rounded leader with 400 community service learning hours and a member of the Music National Honors Society. He was President of his graduating class, a member of the young republicans, SGA, band, jazz band, pep band; football, lacrosse and wrestling team. With most success from wrestling as a senior captain he became an undefeated Maryland State Champion, He looks forward to being an active student-athlete at John Carroll.

Mackenzie Stojetz is a Psychology major. She is very family orientated, participates in Labre, is involved with Campus Ministry, and works at Heinens.

Mary Bridget Watersis a biology major with the intent to attend medical school.  She hopes to be involved in community service at John Carroll.
