CLASS OF 2018 LEADERSHIP SCHOLARS

Quinn Aiken is a psychology and exercise science major on the sports science track and graduated from East Aurora High School in New York. He was a three sport athlete in high school playing soccer, basketball, and baseball, and will be continuing his soccer career at John Carroll. He serves on the Psi Chi psychology board and is an assistant speed and development coach.

Mike Andelbradt is an AYA Education and Chemistry major from Lisle, Illinois. He is a member of the varsity wrestling team as well as a John Carroll tour guide. Mike is involved in the We the People program at Carroll and hopes to become a high school chemistry teacher and wrestling coach following graduation.

Colleen Bailey is a Biology major from Buffalo, New York. Outside of the classroom, she is a student leader for weekly service and a lifeguard swim instructor. Last semester, she studied abroad in Galway, Ireland where she traveled all around Europe, and learned all about the history and culture in Spain, Italy, Hungary, France, and more. This taught her to lead a group of new friends through foreign countries, learn the basics of new languages, adapt to new ways of life, all while balancing a strict budget. In the future, she aspires to have a career in dietetics and culinary.

Nicholas Baker is a senior majoring in Accounting and minoring in Political Science with dreams of going to law school in the future.  He resides in Medina, Ohio where he graduated from Highland High School.  He has worked at the Medina County Auditor’s office for the past three years, has completed an accounting internship with Redwood Living in Beachwood, and just finished a tax internship with EY.  On campus, he is a Student Union Senator and the Ritual Chairman for his fraternity, Beta Theta Pi.  After graduation in May of 2018, Nicholas plans to sit for his CPA over the summer and begin working at EY full time in the fall.

Mylane Bella-Smuts is an Accountancy major with a Leadership Development minor from Kent, Ohio. She is a sister of the Chi Omega fraternity where she serves as Treasurer and is also a member of the professional business fraternity, Alpha Kappa Psi. Along with being a part of the Honors and Boler Ambassadors programs, Mylane is also a tour guide for John Carroll. Once she graduates Mylane will begin working for Pricewaterhouse Coopers as a tax associate in the Fall.

Annie Brennan is an Integrated Marketing Communications major and a Theology and Religious Studies minor from Strongsville, Ohio. She serves as the Photo Editor for The Carroll News, Chi Omega Fraternity’s New Member Educator, is a member of Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA), and is a volunteer with CSSA. Annie took part in the 2017 Catholic Community Connection Summer Fellowship Program, through which she worked as a Marketing Intern for Catholic Charities.

Shawn Breslin is a Finance major and Economics minor from Cleveland, Ohio. While at JCU, Shawn has been a member of the Men’s Varsity Soccer team, Finance Association, and Investment Club. He attended an immersion experience to Appalachia and will serve as an immersion coordinator to El Salvador. Shawn has also worked in CSSA as a Student Liaison and at the Center for Career Development; he is a Leadership Scholar, and winner of the Mayo Society of Greater Cleveland’s scholarship to study abroad in Galway, Ireland.

 Ruthie DuBois is a Psychology major with a concentration in Child and Family Studies from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. She is involved in various service programs through the Center for Service and Social Action. She interned this summer with Cleveland Clinic’s ADHD Summer Treatment Program, and she hopes to one day work in applied behavior analytics.

 Marie “Hono” Keita  is an international business major from Mali. She is currently a member of the club “African Dounia”. In the future, Honorine hopes to start her own enterprise in Mali, to show future generations that being a woman does not stop you from achieving great things.

 Rebecca Love is an Accountancy major with a minor in Leadership from Parma, Ohio. This past spring semester she interned with the public accounting firm in downtown Cleveland, KPMG. After completing her MBA in May 2019, she will start with KPMG full time. Becky is very involved as a brother and Vice President of Membership of the co-ed business fraternity on campus, Alpha Kappa Psi. She is also a leader of a Christian Faith Community Group at JCU. Becky also interns at the John Carroll Business Office as the Arthur Notzel student intern, which she started her sophomore year at JCU. Becky also enjoys volunteering at local organizations and recently completed a local half marathon.

 Laura Matteo is an Arts Management major with minors in Leadership and Spanish from Concord, Ohio. She is on the executive board of Alpha Sigma Nu, the Publication Manager for the JCU Theatre Department, a member of the Honors Program, and is active in campus ministry and choirs. She just returned from an amazing study abroad experience this past spring at Regent’s University London and will be traveling to El Salvador in January on an Immersion Experience. Laura is also a Community Engagement and Education Intern at Playhouse Square.

 Austin McClure is an International Business with Spanish and Culture major with a minor in Entrepreneurship from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He spent the 2017 Spring semester studying abroad in Madrid at Universidad Pontificia Comillas; he then went directly to Doha, Qatar for the summer where he interned with Qatar Airways as a Business Finance intern. On campus, he has held multiple leadership positions and was the Lead Organizer of the first annual JCU Cures, a St. Baldrick’s Foundation head- shaving event that raised $12,500. Austin is also a member of various organizations such as Sigma Phi Epsilon and The Carroll Ballers.

 Julia Mezzoprete is Finance major with a minor in Leadership Development, from Pittsford, NY. She is a member of the professional business fraternity Alpha Kappa Psi, Kappa Alpha Theta sorority, John Carroll Panhellenic Executive Council, Finance Association, Women in Finance Association, Carroll Can and served as a SWAT Leader. Julia also spent last summer with Wegmans as a summer intern in their Indirect Procurement Department.

 Hannah Mizener is a Business Marketing major and a Leadership minor from Cincinnati, Ohio.Hannah studied abroad the 2016 fall semester in Dublin, Ireland at the University College, Dublin. She is a member of the Varsity Softball team and was second team all-conference for all outfield every year since her freshmen year. Hannah will continue her career as the team’s center-fielder. She is involved in a campus organization called Cru and intends to lead a few Bible study groups on campus. Hannah has aspirations of securing a career in Sports Marketing and moving herself up in the ranks to fulfill a leadership position.

 Derek Naim is a Finance Major from Brecksville, Ohio. He attended Lutheran West High School in Rocky River, Ohio. Derek is also a member of the JCU Football Team.Aside from playing football, Derek also works in the sports information department where he broadcasts sporting events for the school. This past summer Derek spent as an intern at the Sherwin Williams Corporate Headquarters where he was an intern in the Financial Shared Services Department.

Samantha Sambois is a biochemistry major from Lancaster, Ohio with the intent of going to medical school. On campus, Samantha has served as a student liaison and volunteered with organizations that include Carroll Reads and JDC tutoring. She is currently an executive board member of JCU EMS, and captain of the John Carroll University cheerleading team.

Emma Schapp is an Integrated Marketing Communication major with minors in Leadership Development and Italian Studies from Williamsville, NY. She is a Campus Tour Guide and a member of Students Empowering Women, Take Back the Night, and American Marketing Association.  She participates in service and immersion trips at JCU and spent the fall semester of her junior year in Rome, Italy.  Following graduation, Emma hopes to pursue a postgraduate year of service.

Olivia Siembor is a Management and Human Resources major from Rochester, N.Y. She spent the spring semester of her sophomore year studying abroad in Madrid, Spain. Olivia has completed a full-time internship at Grant Thornton LLP, where she worked as an audit intern her spring semester of her junior year. At Carroll, Olivia is a member of the Accounting Association, Aw’s for Paws, and loves to participate in intermural sports.

Katie Stevenson Katie Stevenson is a Psychology major and Sociology minor from Pittsburgh, PA. She is currently the Vice President of her sorority, Chi Omega, and is also the Secretary for the psychology honors society, Psi Chi. When she is not on campus, you can find her working at a local restaurant or at a baseball game.

Olivia Zucaro is a Cell and Molecular Biology major, and Population and Public health minor with the intent of attending medical school. She participates in many service activities both on and off campus, including an immersion trips to Guatemala and Honduras, and mentoring high school students. She has also done research in both John Carroll and Cleveland Clinic labs.
