CLASS OF 2018 LEADERSHIP SCHOLARS
Quinn Aiken is a psychology major on the sports science track and graduated from East Aurora High School in New York. He was a three sport athlete in high school playing soccer, basketball, and baseball, and continued his soccer career at John Carroll and coaches girls’ travel soccer.
Mike Andelbradt is an AYA Education and Chemistry major from Lisle, Illinois. He is a member of the varsity wrestling team as well as a John Carroll tour guide. Mike is involved in the We the People program at Carroll and hopes to become a high school chemistry teacher and wrestling coach following graduation.
Colleen Bailey is Biology major from Buffalo, New York. Outside of the classroom, she is the logistics coordinator and a returning member of the John Carroll Rowing team, and is involved in community service. In the future, she aspires to be a Physician’s Assistant.
Nicholas Baker is a sophomore intending on majoring in Accounting and minoring in Political from Medina, Ohio. He has worked at the Medina County Auditor’s office for the past two summers and is also the founder of the Medina County Friends of Hillary club. On campus, he is a Student Union senator and serves as the chairman of the Dining Services Committee. He is also the housing chair and vice president of finance for his fraternity Beta Theta Pi. Upon graduation, he dreams of going to law school.
Mylane Bella-Smuts is an Accountancy major with a Leadership Development minor from Kent, Ohio. She is a sister of Chi Omega fraternity where she serves as Assistant New Member Educator and is a brother of Alpha Kappa Psi business fraternity. Along with being a part of the Honors program, Mylane is also an intern at Cornerstone Family Office, a wealth management firm in Mayfield Heights.
Annie Brennan is an Integrated Marketing Communications major from Strongsville, Ohio. She volunteers on and off campus, is a photographer for the Carroll News, a member of PRSSA, and is a sister of Chi Omega Fraternity. Annie started her own photography business, Annie Brennan Photography, and was an intern for the Greater Cleveland Aquarium this past summer as their official photo lead.
Shawn Breslin is a Business Economics and Finance double-major from Cleveland. He is a member of the John Carroll Men’s Soccer team, and he also participates in the Investment Club as well as the Early College Mentoring Program.
Ruthie DuBois is a Psychology major with a concentration in Child and Family Studies with a Theology minor. She serves as the Raise Awareness Chair of Carroll’s Cancer Advocacy Network and is also a member of Carroll Reads, WJCU, and Students Empowering Women. She is involved in various service opportunities through the Center for Service and Social Action. She hopes to continue her education with John Carroll’s 5-year M.B.A Program to eventually run her own family counseling center.
Kasey Gilson is an Accountancy major with a minor in Communications from Richmond Heights, Ohio. In high school, she was the senior leader of the costumes, hair, and makeup crew for all of the school’s theatrical performances and co-founded the Clothing, Hair, and Makeup Club. Kasey also is involved with her church as a volunteer for Vacation Bible School as a teacher and at Sunday school.
Marie Honorine Keita is an international business major from Mali. She is currently a member of the club “African Dounia”. In the future, Honorine hopes to start her own enterprise in Mali, to show future generations that being a woman does not stop you from achieving great things.
Rebecca Love is an Accountancy major with a minor in leadership from Parma, Ohio. She is a member and warden of the business fraternity, Alpha Kappa Psi, and a leader of a Christian Faith Community. She has also found time to volunteer at St. Thomas Aquinas after-school program and John Carroll’s Celebration Day. She also enjoys playing intermural sports.
Gabbi Lucas is an Adolescent/Young Adult Education major from Painesville, Ohio. She enjoys spending her free time with friends exploring local parks and getting out of the city. Whether hiking or skiing she loves to be outdoors. At John Carroll she has been a tutor for the We the People Program and is a member of the women’s club volleyball team.
Laura Matteo is an Arts Management major from Concord, Ohio. She is also a member of the Honors Program is involved with Campus Ministry, Schola Cantorum, and the all-female a capella group, Sweet Carrollines. Laura also spends time working in the JCU Mail Center and hopes to go on an immersion this year at JCU.
Austin McClure is an International Business with Language and Culture major from Cranberry Township, Pennsylvania. He is a member of the JCU Men’s Lacrosse team and interned in the Corporate Planning & Strategy Team at Hyland Software. Austin also has experience working in his church as well as participating in multiple mission trips.
Julia Mezzoprete is an Accountancy and Finance double major with a minor in Leadership Develop, from Pittsford, New York. She serves as the Chief Operating Officer for the Kappa Alpha Theta sorority and is also a member of the professional business fraternity Alpha Kappa Psi, Finance Association, Carroll Can, Stargazing Club and served as a SWAT Leader. Julia spent her last summer with Wegman’s in their summer internship program.
Hannah Mizener is a Business Marketing major and a Leadership minor from Cincinnati, Ohio. She is a member of the Varsity Softball team, is involved in a Cru and intends to lead a few Bible study groups on campus. Hannah has aspirations of securing a career in Sports Marketing and moving herself up in the ranks to fulfill a leadership position.
Derek Naim is a Finance major with a Communication minor from Brecksville, Ohio. In high school, he was was the student body president in high school and captained the football and baseball teams. Dereke is a member of the John Carroll football team.
Kirsten Ponsart is biochemistry major from Painesville, Ohio. She is a member of the softball team at john Carroll and plays on intramural sports teams. She is a tutor for Youth for Justice and is a member of the pre health club. After graduation Kirsten plans on attending medical school.
Samantha Sambois is a BioChemistry major from Lancaster, Ohio, She is a member of the John Carroll cheerleading team, JCU EMS, and the pre-health program. In high school Samantha was part of the cheerleading squad, marching band, cross country, track and field, and an officer in the steering committee for the Bulldog dance marathon.
Emma Schapp is an undecided major with a minor in Leadership Development from Williamsville, NY. She is a member of the We the People program, Students Empowering Women, Take Back the Night and Carroll Crazies. Emma is also on the John Carroll women’s lacrosse team.
Olivia Siembor is an Accountancy major. While attending Victor High School in her hometown of Rochester, she was involved in activities including National Honors Society, Victor Cares Club, Backpack Program, and DECA, and many community service projects. Olivia was a three-sport varsity letterman in Soccer, Basketball, and Cheerleading. She plans to become involved in intermural sports and take advantage of community service opportunities that John Carroll has to offer.
Mollie Snyder is an incoming freshman who plans to major in Business. She went to Academy of the Holy Names in Tampa, Florida, while in high school she was involved in Student Government, Mayor’s Youth Corps, and Mission Trips. She is excited to start her freshmen year and looks forward to the many opportunities to come as a student at John Carroll University.
Katie Stevenson was born and raised in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania where she attended Fox Chapel Area High School. Over the past four years, she has been involved in five different choirs, three spring musicals, and four seasons of varsity tennis. She held the title of Choral Office Manager and Communications Coordinator for FC’s music department. In addition, she is going on her third year as a cake decorator and store manager at her local Baskin-Robbins. Katie enjoys playing guitar and ukulele, singing, and yoga.
Olivia Zucaro is a cell and molecular biology major, and public health minor with the intent of attending medical school. She participates in many service activities both on and off campus, including an immersion trip to Guatemala. She also serves as a mentor to high school students.
