CLASS OF 2018 LEADERSHIP SCHOLARS
Quinn Aiken is a psychology and exercise science major on the sports science track and a graduate of East Aurora High School in New York. He was a three-sport athlete in high school and has continued his soccer career at John Carroll. He serves on the Psi Chi psychology board and is an assistant speed and development coach.
Mike Andelbradt is an AYA Education and Chemistry major from Lisle, Illinois. He is a member of the varsity wrestling team as well as a John Carroll tour guide. Mike is involved in the We the People program at Carroll and hopes to become a high school chemistry teacher and wrestling coach following graduation.
Colleen Bailey is a Biology major from Buffalo, New York. Outside of the classroom, she is a student leader for weekly service programs, works as an Organic Chemistry teaching assistant, and plays intramural volleyball. In the future, she aspires to be a Physician’s Assistant.
Nicholas Baker is a junior majoring in Accounting and minoring in Political Science with dreams of going to law school in the future. He resides in Medina, Ohio where he graduated from Highland High School. He has worked at the Medina County Auditor’s office for the past two years and has just finished an accounting internship with Redwood Living in Beachwood. Nicholas is also the founder of the Medina County Friends of Hillary club. On campus, he is the Vice President of Business Affairs with Student Union. He is also the Executive Vice President for his fraternity, Beta Theta Pi. He is looking forward to continuing his involvement with both organizations in the coming school year.
Mylane Bella-Smuts is an accountancy major with a Leadership Development minor from Kent, Ohio. She is a sister of Chi Omega fraternity where she serves as Treasurer and is a member of the professional business fraternity, Alpha Kappa Psi. Along with being a part of the Honors and Boler Ambassadors programs, Mylane is also an intern at Cornerstone Family Office, a wealth management firm in Mayfield Heights.
Annie Brennan is an Integrated Marketing Communications major from Strongsville, Ohio. She volunteers on and off campus, is a photographer for the Carroll News, a member of PRSSA, and is a sister of Chi Omega Fraternity. Annie has recently started her own photography business, Annie Brennan Photography, and is studying abroad in Galway, Ireland during the Fall 2016 semester.
Shawn Breslin is a Business Finance major from Cleveland. He is a member of the John Carroll Men’s Soccer team, and he is also a member of the Finance Association as well as the Early College Mentoring Program.
Ruthie DuBois is a Psychology major with a concentration in Child and Family Studies with a Business minor. She recently spent an amazing semester abroad in Galway, Ireland. She serves as the Financial Advisor in Carroll’s Cancer Advocacy Network, as a genre show host on WJCU, and is also a member of Campus Crusades for Christ. She is involved in various service programs through the Center for Service and Social Action. She hopes to continue her education with JCU’s 5-year M.B.A program to eventually run her own family counseling center.
Kasey Gilson is an Accountancy major with a minor in Communications from Richmond Heights, Ohio. In high school, she was the senior leader of the costumes, hair, and makeup crew for all of the school’s theatrical performances and co-founded the Clothing, Hair, and Makeup Club. Kasey also is involved with her church as a volunteer for Vacation Bible School as a teacher and at Sunday school.
Marie “Hono” Keita is an international business major from Mali. She is currently a member of the club “African Dounia”. In the future, Honorine hopes to start her own enterprise in Mali, to show future generations that being a woman does not stop you from achieving great things.
Rebecca Love is an Accountancy major with a minor in Leadership from Parma, Ohio. She is a brother and Vice President of Membership of the co-ed business fraternity on campus, Alpha Kappa Psi and is also a leader of a Christian Faith Community Group. She spends her time interning at the John Carroll Business Office as the Arthur Notzel student intern. Rebecca also enjoys volunteering at local organizations and preparing for a local half marathon.
Gabbi Lucas a native of Painesville, Ohio, is majoring in history on the Adolescent/Young Adult education track in order to teach at the secondary level. She is very excited to be student teaching this upcoming school year. She enjoys spending her free time with friends exploring local parks and getting out of the city. Whether hiking or skiing she loves to be outdoors.
Laura Matteo is an Arts Management major and Leadership and Spanish minor from Concord, Ohio. She is a member of the Honors Program at JCU and is involved with Campus Ministry, Schola Cantorum, theatre, and the all-female a capella group, The Sweet Carrollines. Laura is also a Community Engagement and Education Intern at Playhouse Square and is looking forward to her junior year at JCU!
Austin McClure is an International Business with Language and Culture major from Cranberry Township, Pennsylvania. He is a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon and the Vice President of Service for the Interfraternity Council. Austin has completed two full-time internships at Hyland Software where I have worked in the Corporate Planning & Strategy department and the Office of the CTO. In the Spring semester of 2017 Austin will be studying abroad in the city of Madrid.
Julia Mezzoprete is a Finance and Logistics double major with a minor in Leadership Development, from Pittsford, New York. She is a member of the professional business fraternity Alpha Kappa Psi, Kappa Alpha Theta sorority, Finance Association, Carroll Can, Stargazing Club and served as a SWAT Leader. Julia studied abroad this past spring at Regents University in London. Julia also spent last summer with Wegmans as a summer intern in their Logistics Department.
Hannah Mizener is a Business Marketing major and a Leadership minor from Cincinnati, Ohio. Hannah will be studying abroad this fall semester in Dublin, Ireland at the University College Dublin. She is a member of the Varsity Softball team and was second team all-conference for all outfield her first and second season. Hannah will continue her career as the team’s left fielder. She is involved in a campus organization called Cru and intends to lead a few Bible study groups on campus. Hannah has aspirations of securing a career in Sports Marketing and moving herself up in the ranks to fulfill a leadership position.
Derek Naim an accounting major from Brecksville, Ohio. At John Carroll, Derek is a member of the football team as well as a team leader for the Recreation Department. He has spent the last two summers interning with Third Federal Bank.
Kirsten Ponsart is biochemistry major from Painesville, Ohio. She is a member of the varsity softball team at john Carroll and plays intramural basketball. She is a member of the pre health club, a teaching assistant for Organic Chemistry, and a pulmonary observer at Metro Health Medical Center. After graduation Kirsten plans on attending medical school.
Samantha Sambois is a BioChemistry major from Lancaster, Ohio, She is a member of the John Carroll cheerleading team, JCU EMS, and the pre-health program. In high school Samantha was part of the cheerleading squad, marching band, cross country, track and field, and an officer in the steering committee for the Bulldog dance marathon.
Emma Schapp is an Integrated Marketing Communications major with minors in Leadership Development and Italian Studies from Williamsville, NY. She is a member of the Women’s Lacrosse team and American Marketing Association, participates in weekly service and immersion trips, and is the treasurer of Students Empowering Women. As a junior, Emma will be a Campus Tour Guide and will spend the fall semester studying abroad in Rome, Italy.
Olivia Siembor is an Accountancy major with an intended Leadership minor from Rochester, NY. She spent her spring semester of her sophomore year studying abroad in Madrid, Spain. When Olivia is at Carroll she is involved in service off and on campus service, a member of the Accounting Association, a S.W.A.T leader for incoming freshmen, and participates in intermural sports.
Katie Stevenson is a Psychology major with a concentration in Forensics and Criminology minor from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. She is a sister and the chair of Career and Personal Development in John Carroll’s chapter of the Chi Omega Fraternity. Katie currently works as a host and server at a nearby restaurant, and enjoys exercising and playing music in her free time.
Olivia Zucaro is a Cell and Molecular Biology major, and Population and Public health minor with the intent of attending medical school. She participates in many service activities both on and off campus, including an immersion trip to Guatemala and mentoring high school students. She has also done research in both John Carroll and Cleveland Clinic labs.
