CLASS OF 2017 LEADERSHIP SCHOLARS

Mitchell Comport is a Finance and Economics double-major from Mars, Pennsylvania. He serves as the new member educator and treasurer for the Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity and is also a member of the finance association, volunteer income tax association, and served as a SWAT leader. Mitchell has aspirations of securing a career within the field of investment banking following graduation.

Ciara Crossey is a Communications major with minors in Spanish and Professional Writing from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. She is a Resident Assistant and serves as the President of the John Carroll chapter of Students With Diabetes. In addition, Ciara is a staff reporter for the World News section of the Carroll News. After graduation, she plans to write for a national magazine.

Bobby Exler is a General Chemistry and Business Management double major from Henrietta, New York. He is a Resident Assistant, an infielder on the varsity baseball team, and consistently active in service with CSSA. Bobby hopes to purse an internship in the oil and natural gas drilling industry this summer.

Laura Gagliano is an Accountancy major with a Leadership Development minor from Buffalo, New York. Outside of the classroom, Laura is a campus Tour Guide  and a member of the Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority. Laura is also involved in community service through the Center for Service and Social Action.

Brent Gibala-Broxholm is a Business major from Walworth, New York.  He is a member of the Beta Theta Pi and is also a campus tour guide.  Brent is excited to go through the RCIA program this fall through the Campus Ministry.

Jennifer Grant is an International Business major from the United Kingdom. She is a Resident Assistant and takes part in different organizations on campus, including in a Carroll Faith Community. Jennifer is also a DJ on the University radio station, WJCU 88.7.

Andrew Harrington is a Biochemistry major with a Leadership Development minor from Erie, Pennsylvania. He works on campus in the enrollment division for John Carroll and was a SWAT leader. Andrew also participates in campus ministry, intramurals, Late Night at Carroll, and serves as the Vice President of the Stargazing Club.

Patrick Hiznay is a Finance major with a minor in Leadership Development.  He works for the JCU Sports Information Department and is involved with intramural sports and the Carroll Crazies organization.

Foster King  is a Computer Science major from Solon, Ohio. He is a member of the John Carroll soccer team.

Haley Kocisko is a Middle Childhood Education Major with minors in Leadership Development Minor and a Theology and Religious Studies from Cincinnati, Ohio. She is involved in a Christian Faith Community, Campus Crusade for Christ, Students for Social Justice, Student Union Programming Board, the Carroll News, the We the People program, Respect for Life, and club basketball.

Emily Koeritzer is a Biology major from Delaware, Ohio. She is serving as a leader for a Christian Faith Community and as a mentor for the Pathways to Success Program for incoming students. On campus, Emily is also involved with the Residence Hall Association (RHA), the mixed a capella group Streaks in Key, and Respect for Life.

Catherine Looby is a Psychology with a minor in French from Lake Forest, Illinois. She is involved as the co-chair for the Fair Trade Committee, a SWAT leader, and a Writing Center consultant. Catherine also participates in Labre, the Jesuit Day of Service, campus ministry, and other service and sporting events.

Mary Frances McGowan is a Journalism and Political Science double major with a minor in Peace, Justice and Human Rights from Brecksville, Ohio. At JCU, she is the Campus Editor for the Carroll News, a founding member of the Workers’ Rights Committee, and a proud sister of Kappa Delta Sorority. After Mary Frances leaves John Carroll, she hopes to pursue a career in human rights investigative journalism.

Emily Mitchell is a Psychology major from Strongsville, Ohio. She serves as a staff reporter for The Carroll News and recently started the JCU Stargazing Club. Emily also enjoys volunteering with kids at her parish of St. John Neumann. When she graduates from John Carroll, she aspires to be a child life specialist at Rainbow Babies and Children’s Hospital.

Morgan Osheka is a Communications major with minors in Leadership Development and Professional Writing from Coraopolis, Pennsylvania. She is the Assistant Editor for the Life & Entertainment section of the The Carroll News and is a member of PRSSA, Schola Cantorum, Chapel Choir, and Oxfam America.

Elizabeth Posney is a Chemistry major from Sarver, Pennsylvania.  She is involved in John Carroll’s cheerleading squad and Christian Famith Communities, and participates in several campus ministry activities on campus.  Lizzie was a student leader for the 2014 Jesuit Day of Service, worked as a counselor for JCU’s alumni weekend this past summer, and served as a SWAT leader.

Steven Schmitz is a Business major from Mount Airy, Maryland.  He participates on the varisty wrestling team and is a Resident Assistant He has also been able to stay involved with music as a keyboardist and percussionist in JCU jazz band.

Mackenzie Stojetz is a Psychology major from Aurora, Ohio . She participates in the Labre project is involved with Campus Ministry, and works at Heinens grocery store.

Mary Bridget Waters is a Biology major with hopes of attending medical school.  She is a member of the John Carroll cross country and track and field teams and also enjoys participating in community service on and off campus.  Mary Bridget spent her summer working as a veterinarian assistant and hopes to attend medical school after graduation.
