CLASS OF 2015 LEADERSHIP SCHOLARS

Megan Boyk is a Biology major with a minor in Population and Public Health from Pemberville, Ohio.  On campus, Megan works is a member of the Honors Program, works as a tour guide, sings in the Schola Cantorum and Chapel Choir, participates in various community service activities, and plays several intramural sports.   Megan is an EMT on John Carroll’s student-run EMS department, where she serves as a shift officer and Department Chief.  In the summer of 2014, Megan completed a Shepherd Consortium poverty immersion internship at an HIV clinic for the underserved in North Carolina.  Megan is applying to medical school this year and ultimately hopes to become a physician working with the underserved and marginalized.

John Cameron is a Biology major from Sylvania, Ohio.  He has enjoyed being a four-year member of the cross country and track teams as well as serving as a member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and the Pre-Health Professions Club.  John spends his summers lifeguarding and coaching a youth swim team and as a hospital volunteer at the University of Toledo Medical Center.  After John Carroll, John hopes to continue his education and attend podiatry school to become a Doctor of Podiatric Medicine.

Tim Johnson is a Political Science Major with a minor in English from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He serves as the Executive Vice President of the Student Union, is a member of the Beta Theta Pi fraternity on campus, is an editor for Carroll News, and is involved with Campus Ministry. Tim plans to attend law school after he graduates from John Carroll.

Freddy Keppler is a Biology major from Cleveland, Ohio. He is a member of the Pre-Health Society and serves as the Vice President of the Pre-Dental Club and Treasurer of Alpha Sigma Nu Jesuit Honors Society. Freddy is also a teacher’s assistant for general chemistry lab and regularly participates in campus ministry activities as a Eucharistic minister, lector, sacristan, and retreat leader. He hopes to pursue his DDS degree and to specialize in orthodontics after graduating in the Spring.

Alex Kwit is a Biochemisty major with a concentration in Neuroscience from Hinckley, Ohio.   Having recently returned from a semester abroad in Madrid, Spain, Alex is now fluent in three languages—English, Ukrainian, and Spanish. Alex also served as a SWAT Leader, participates in the Honors Program, theatrical productions, the Pre-Health Society, undergraduate research in chemistry, and is an active member of PLAST, a Ukrainian Scouting Organization. She will be attending the University of Toledo College of Medicine next fall to further her studies in the medical field.

Emily Mapes is an Accountancy major from Minerva, Ohio. She y participates in many on campus organizations such as the Peer Health Advisory Program, Christian Life Communities, and Relay for Life. She also volunteers off campus with the Children’s Hunger Alliance in Cleveland. After graduation, Emily plans to complete a Master’s in Accountancy at John Carroll University.

Haley McDonald is an Exercise Science major with a minor in Leadership Development from Gibsonia, Pennsylvania. As part of the Women’s Varsity Soccer team, Haley continues in her role as a goalkeeper, hoping to lead the Blue Streaks back to the OAC championship game for the fourth consecutive year. She recently studied abroad in England and in her spare time, Haley coaches younger soccer players the skills and knowledge of the game to encourage children to stay active and healthy.

Natasha Rafidi is an International Business major with a minor in East Asian Studies from Canfield, Ohio. Natasha is a member of Alpha Kappa Psi and the Middle Eastern Student Association. At JCU, she works as a Tour Guide and International Peer Mentor. Natasha recently returned from a semester abroad in Beijing, China where she also had a marketing internship. Natasha plans to return to Asia after graduation.

Colleen Reilly is a Classics and History double major with a minor in Catholic Studies from Cincinnati, Ohio. She serves as President of Alpha Sigma Nu, the Jesuit Honors Society, is a Tour Guide, Call Center Supervisor, a member of the Honors Program, and involved with various community service activities. Colleen plans to attend law school after graduating from JCU.

John Ringer is an Early Childhood Education major from North Kingsville, Ohio. He has served JCU as a Resident Assistant and as a SWAT Leader, and participates in several intramural sports each year.  John hopes to work as an elementary teacher after graduation.

Rachel Sammon is a Biochemistry Major with a Statistics minor from Seven Hills, Ohio. Rachel has served as a SWAT leader and is involved in Campus Ministry as a lector, Eucharistic minister, and altar server. In addition, Rachel works on campus at the circulation desk in the library.

Dave Schillero is a Communications and Political Science major from Garfield Heights, Ohio. He is the Sports Director for JCTV4, sports writer for The Carroll News and participates in broadcasting JCU sports on 88.7 WJCU. Dave enjoys participating in campus ministry and was a member of the Orientation Staff and an RA.

Tom Shay is an Accountancy major with a Leadership Development minor from Braceville, where was elected to serve as the village Fiscal Officer. Tom participates in many on-campus organizations such as the Accounting Association and Labre Project. Tom also dedicates his free time helping non-profit organizations with their bookkeeping.

Haley Turner is a Communications and Spanish double major from Hudson, Ohio. She is currently the Business Manager of the Carroll News and is a marketing intern at Hudson Integrated Marketing. Haley is also a member of the JCU track & field team where she runs middle-distance events. She hopes to get a job in marketing or public relations after graduation.

Collin Vozar is a Finance major from Medina, Ohio. He is a member of the John Carroll wrestling team and plans to start up his own business after graduation.
