CLASS OF 2019 LEADERSHIP SCHOLARS
Matthew Bocketti is a Finance and Economics double major from Northville, Michigan. On campus he is the V.P. of Finance for his fraternity, Beta Theta Pi, as well as a member of the club volleyball team. Matt has participated in numerous service projects including outreach efforts through UBS Community Corps. and an after-school care program at St. Thomas Aquinas School in Cleveland, Ohio. His work experience includes two internships at UBS Financial Services. Upon graduation, he plans to achieve the Certified Financial Planner designation and become a financial advisor.
Luke Cancilla is an Exercise Science major from Erie, Pennsylvania. In high school, he was the President of National Honors Society and participated in a variety of service work, including a week-long mission trip in Baltimore. Luke was a state championship qualifier in cross country and state championship medalist in track during high school. He was also a varsity basketball player. Currently, Luke is a member of the JCU cross country and track teams.
Zach Chapman is a Business Economics Major from Toledo, Ohio. In high school, he was a band member, retreat leader, debate team member, member of the Campion players’ drama club and a member of both the NHS and Spanish NHS. He is an Eagle Scout and a coffee barista. At JCU he is a member of the honors program, WJCU, the JCU pep band and works in the language learning center.
Alejandro Charette is from Centerville, Ohio. In high school, he played football and wrested for three years. Alejandro will continue playing football for John Carroll.
Nick Colby is an Exercise Science major from Russia, Ohio. In high school, he was a member of the National Honors Society, the Science Olympiad team, and members of the varsity Bowling and Track teams. At John Carroll, he is a member of the Varsity Track and Field Team, the Knights of Columbus, and a Chemistry Laboratory Teacher’s Assistant. He also participates in service opportunities and other social activities on campus.
Emily Ellis is a Biochemistry major with a Leadership Development minor from Canfield, Ohio. She is a member of the pre-health club and pre-medical club, as well as an executive board member of Seeds of Hope. Following her four years at John Carroll, Emily hopes to attend medical school.
Elizabeth Evankovich is an Accountancy Major from Pittsburgh. She serves as Chief Administration Officer in Kappa Alpha Theta and is a member of Finance Association, SUPB, and the Honors Program. In her free time, Liz enjoys volunteering and singing.
Nathaniel Fuller is a Marketing Major from Pittsburgh Pennsylvania. He is member of the Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity and volunteers his time in many ways to bettering the John Carroll Community. In high school, he was an Eagle Scout and an advisor to his school’s multi-media club. Moving forward, he hopes to become involved in the entertainment industry.
Marissa Golem is an Early Childhood Education major who attended Padua Franciscan High School in Parma, Ohio. She is a member of the JCU Women’s Soccer team and has participated in JCU intramural soccer, softball, volleyball and basketball. Marissa enjoys helping others and has spent time volunteering at St. Thomas Aquinas, supervising after-school care. Other volunteer activities of Marissa’s include Special Olympics, Danie’s Day, Labre, Through the Eyes of a Child, The Max Cure Foundation Swim Marathon, Metro Catholic School Holiday Celebration, and the Honduras Foundation. Marissa loves working with children and plans on becoming a kindergarten teacher in the future.
Alexis Guage is a Communications major and a business minor from Rochester, New York. She is a member of the woman’s lacrosse team here at John Carroll. She hopes to one day start a club field hockey team here at JCU. Upon graduation she hopes to become a news reporter.
Jacob Haas is a Computer Science major from Westlake, Ohio. During his freshman year, Jacob was active throughout campus, joining many clubs and groups such as intermural sports, The JCU Paranormal Research Group, and a social fraternity. In his free-time, Jacob enjoys volunteering for several organizations including battered women’s shelters and soup kitchens throughout Cleveland. While at John Carroll, he plans to continue studying hard and being involved throughout the community.
Devvin LaBarge is a Biology major from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Last year, a concussion ended her basketball career as a Lady Blue Streak. This year as a sophomore, she has taken on the responsibilities of being a Resident Assistant and serving on the board of Rally Care, an organization focusing on Special Needs Children. She is also active in JCU’s Leadership Program. After graduation, Devvin plans to attain her Master’s Degree in Physician’s Assistant or attend Medical School.
Kristina Lustri is a Biology major from Waite Hill, Ohio. In high school, Kristina participated in many clubs, extracurricular activities, and a variety of community services. Kristina continues to be outgoing at John Carroll. She participates in Stargazing Club, Home Buddies, Fantasy Gaming Club, Carroll Cinema Society, and the Pre-Health club. In Kristina’s spare time, she is a tutor and socializes with her friends. She rarely misses a day of fitness, participating in the Zumba classes or just working out at the gym. She also enjoyed interning at two medical offices in the summer, and is a SWAT leader for fall 2016. Kristina plans on pursuing a career in health care.
Jessica Neundorf is a double-major of Psychological Science and Spanish. She went to high school in Fairview Park, Ohio and grew up in Garfield Heights, Ohio. She does weekly service working with children who have disabilities and plans to study abroad in Spain for the spring semester of 2017. There, she hopes to enhance her understanding of the Spanish language and culture. The past summer she worked at a daycare with the infants and toddlers. She looks forward to being involved at JCU during the fall semester while she is on campus.
Katie O’Connell is a Communications Integrated Marketing major from La Grange, IL. She pursues her passion of service through The Carroll Ballers and Seeds of Hope programs. Katie serves as the philanthropy chair for Gamma Phi Beta and works in the Office of Admission as a tour guide.
Nicholas Reis plans to major in Marketing and minor in Sport Studies at JCU. He hails from Newton, IL, which is four hours south of Chicago. In high school he was involved in football, baseball, track, Spanish Club, Beta Club, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, 4-H, and Lettermen Club. He was captain of the football team in 2014. Nick will be a Student Assistant for the team this fall. Nick has experience with being able to meet children from the Shriners Hospital in Chicago along with being a Miracle League Softball volunteer. Illinois Shrine All Star Game 2015 and Illinois High School Association (IHSA) Student Advisory Board 2013-15. Started first ever “Pink Out” game at Newton for varsity boys basketball proudly supporting area cancer survivors.
Connor Robinson is an undecided major from Mentor, Ohio. In high school, Connor had five varsity letters in football, baseball, and track and will continue to play football at John Carroll. In addition to athletics, Connor was also the student body president for his high school and was involved in campus ministry. He plans to continue his involvement in campus ministry at John Carroll.
Jerry Rostocil is a Sociology major with a concentration in Criminology from Eastlake, OH. He is minoring in Leadership and Spanish as well. Jerry is a Football Student manager for the Blue Streaks and helps out with spring sports as well on campus. During his second semester here at John Carroll, he was elected as the financial advisor for the Resident Hall Association. He hopes to get more involve on campus with more clubs and with campus ministry.
Julia Ruggiero is from Pittsburgh, PA, and planning to major in Integrated Marketing of Communications with a minor in Business. In High School, Julia participated in various clubs and activities and was the co-founder, treasurer, and social events planner of the Oakland Catholic Science Club. At John Carroll, Julia is involved in Her Campus and various other activities. Julia works both as a sales associate at The Rally House back at home and is running a business as a Wellness Advocate for DoTERRA essential oils, teaching about natural solutions.
Amanda Smigel is a Psychology major with a Biology minor from Kent, Ohio. Throughout high school, she was an officer for NHS, a freshman mentor, a member of the Leadership Retreat Planning Committee, on the softball team, and was involved in choir and the drama guild. At JCU, she will also be a member of the honors program
Haley Vinborg is a Marketing major from Mentor, Ohio. She plans to minor in Leadership and continue to develop as a young leader. Outside the classroom at JCU, Haley is member of the women’s soccer team. She volunteers on and off campus helping others around the Cleveland area. She intends on joining business programs and getting an internship to further her knowledge in the business field. Haley’s dream job is to be head of the marketing department for a Cleveland sports team.
