CLASS OF 2015 LEADERSHIP SCHOLARS
Megan Boyk is a junior Biology major with a minor in Population and Public Health. In addition to being a member of the Leadership Scholars Program, she is also in the Honors Program. On campus, Megan works as a tour guide, sings in Schola Cantorum and Chapel Choir, participates in various community service activities, and plays several intramural sports. She also works as an EMT in John Carroll’s EMS department, where she serves as a shift officer and as an executive board member. Following graduation, Megan hopes to attend medical school and eventually work in primary care with the underserved.
John Cameron is currently a Biology major with a pre-med focus. He is currently a member of the cross country and track teams at John Carroll. John spends his summers as a lifeguard and a youth swim team coach. He also volunteers at the University of Toledo Medical Center. He hopes to become involved in many activities this year at JCU.
Tim Johnson is a Political Science Major with plans to minor in English. He serves as a sophomore class Senator on the Student Union, is a member of the Beta Theta Pi fraternity on campus, is involved with Campus Ministry, plays intramural soccer and volleyball, and works in the Sports Information Department. Tim plans to attend law school after he graduates from John Carroll.
Freddy Keppler is a Biology major who plans on attending dental school after graduation in hopes of becoming an orthodontist. Freddy is a member of the Pre-Health Society and is also a teacher’s assistant for general chemistry lab. He participates in campus ministry activities and was a team member for the Manresa 22 retreat. Similarly, he is a Eucharistic minister and a lector. Freddy looks to continue to stay involved in various activities on campus and to perform volunteer work around the Cleveland area.
Alex Kwit is a Biochemisty major with a concentration in Neuroscience. She intends on furthering her studies in the medical field following graduation. Recently returned from a semester abroad in Madrid, Spain, Alex is now fluent in three languages—English, Ukrainian, and Spanish. Alex also served as a SWAT Leader, participates in the Honors Program, theatrical productions, the Pre-Health Society, and is an active member of PLAST, a Ukrainian Scouting Organization.
Emily Mapes is majoring in Accountancy at John Carroll University. She participates on the Women’s Varsity Cross Country, Indoor Track and Outdoor Track and Field teams where she achieved the status of All-American in the 3K Steeplechase. Emily participates in many on campus organizations such as the Peer Health Advisory Program, Christian Life Communities, and Relay for Life. She also volunteers off campus with the Children’s Hunger Alliance in Cleveland. After graduation, Emily plans to complete a Master’s in Accountancy at John Carroll University.
Haley McDonald is a junior at John Carroll and majoring in Exercise Science. She works as a student athletic trainer to utilize her skills she has learned through her scholarship and her major. Haley also plays on the Women’s Soccer team as a Goalkeeper. She hopes to further expand her knowledge of leadership by going abroad. In the future, Haley looks to encourage young children to enjoy the perks of playing a sport and staying active.
Natasha Rafidi is a junior International Business major with a minor in Chinese. She is fluent in Arabic and enjoys learning new languages. She is a member of Alpha Kappa Psi, the Middle Eastern Student Association, and the Latin American Student Association. She works as a Tour Guide for the Office of Admissions and will be studying abroad in Beijing for the Spring 2014 semester.
Colleen Reilly is studying Classics and History, as she plans on attending law school in the future. In addition to participating in the Honors Program and being a member of the Eta Sigma Phi Classics Honor Society, Colleen works as Tour Guide and plays lacrosse for JCU. She just returned from a semester studying abroad in Ireland, and plans to become more involved in community service activities.
John Ringer is majoring in Early Childhood Education at John Carroll. He serves as a Resident Assistant for freshman, was a SWAT Leader his sophomore year, and plans on participating in several intramural activities, including racquetball and basketball.
Rachel Sammon is a Biochemistry Major. Rachel has served as a SWAT leader, is a member of Pre-Health Society, and is involved in Campus Ministry as a lector, extraordinary minister of Holy Communion, and altar server. In addition, Rachel works on campus at the circulation desk in the library.
Dave Schillero is studying Communications and Political Science. He is the Sports Director for JCTV4, sports writer for The Carroll News and participates in broadcasting JCU sports on 88.7 WJCU. David is currently interning at WOIO 19 Action News Cleveland and enjoys participating in campus ministry.
Tom Shay is a Junior Accounting major at John Carroll University and served as the Fiscal Officer in his home town of Braceville, Ohio. Tom participates in many on campus organizations such as the Accounting Association and Labre Project. While off campus, he enjoys spending time doing bookkeeping for non-profits and attending community events.
Haley Turner is a junior Communications/ Spanish double major from Hudson, OH. She is currently an intern at the Interreligious Task Force on Central America and is a member of the all-female a capella group: The Sweet Carrollines. She also runs indoor/outdoor track for the streaks.
Collin Vozar is a Finance major with plans of starting his own business. He is also a member of the John Carroll wrestling team.
