CLASS OF 2019 LEADERSHIP SCHOLARS
Matthew Bocketti is a Finance major and Economics minor from Northville, Michigan. On campus he is the President his fraternity, Beta Theta Pi, as well as a member of the club volleyball team. Matt has participated in numerous service projects including outreach efforts through UBS Community Corps. and an after-school care program at St. Thomas Aquinas School in Cleveland, Ohio. His work experience includes three internships at UBS Financial Services. Upon graduation, he plans to achieve the Certified Financial Planner designation and become a financial advisor.
Luke Cancilla is an Exercise Science major from Erie, Pennsylvania. In high school, he was the President of National Honors Society and participated in a variety of service work, including a week-long mission trip in Baltimore. Luke was a state championship qualifier in cross country and state championship medalist in track during high school. Currently, Luke is a member of the JCU cross country and track teams and earned all-OAC honors for the indoor 800m sophomore year.
Zach Chapman is a Business Economics Major from Toledo, Ohio. Zach’s favorite past time is photography and he loves to take pictures. He also loves comedy and frequently has jokes to share. As far as involvement on campus, Zach’s main activities are the JCU Labre Project and the JCU Pep Band. He also is excited to be a student mentor in the new mentorship program that is part of the honors program. He has a passion for music and expresses this through his involvement in both WJCU and the JCU pep band. Zach is an ambassador for JCU through the admissions department. He loves to meet new people and has a passion for helping others.
Alejandro Charette is from Centerville, Ohio. In high school, he played football and wrested for three years. Alejandro will continue playing football for John Carroll.
Nick Colby is Exercise Science major from Russia, Ohio. In high school, he was a member of the National Honors Society, the Science Olympiad team, and members of the varsity Bowling and Track teams. At John Carroll, he is a member of the Varsity Track and Field Team and was a national qualifier for the 2017 outdoor season in the discus throw. He is also a member of the Knights of Columbus and University Honors Program, a General Chemistry Laboratory Teaching Assistant, and participates in service opportunities, such as CSSA weekly service and immersion experiences. After graduating from JCU, Nick hopes to acquire a Doctorate ofPhysical Therapy degree.
Emily Ellis is a Biochemistry major with a Leadership Development minor from Canfield, Ohio. She is a member of the pre-health club, as well as an executive board member for the pre-medical club and Seeds of Hope. This year, she will continue researching the computational chemistry lab on campus. Following her four years at John Carroll, Emily hopes to attend medical school.
Elizabeth Evankovich is an Accountancy Major from Pittsburgh. Liz serves as Chief Operating Officer in Kappa Alpha Theta and is the Financial Officer for the Institute of Management Accountants. She is also a member of the Honors Program. In her free time, Liz enjoys volunteering and singing.
Nathaniel Fuller is a Marketing Major from Pittsburgh Pennsylvania. He is member of the Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity and volunteers his time in many ways to better the John Carroll Community. He is an Eagle Scout, free-lance photographer, and art/music enthusiast. Moving forward, he hopes to become involved in marketing the entertainment industry.
Marissa Golem is an Early Childhood Education major who attended Padua Franciscan High School in Parma, Ohio. She is a member of the JCU Women’s Soccer team and has participated in JCU intramural soccer, softball, volleyball and basketball. Marissa enjoys helping others and has spent time volunteering at St. Thomas Aquinas, supervising after-school care. Other volunteer activities of Marissa’s include Special Olympics, Danie’s Day, Labre, Through the Eyes of a Child, The Max Cure Foundation Swim Marathon, Metro Catholic School Holiday Celebration, and the Honduras Foundation. Most recently, she participated in a service mission through the Caminante Educational Project, traveling to the Dominican Republic to teach Haitian children. Marissa loves working with children and plans on becoming a kindergarten teacher in the future.
Alexis Guage is an Integrated Marketing and Communications Major from Rochester NY. She has a minor in Italian and studying abroad in Rome for the Fall 2017 semester. Alexis is a member of the woman’s lacrosse team here at John Carroll. She is very interested in marketing and public relations and hopes to persue those interests upon graduation from JCU.
Jacob Haas is a Computer Science major from Westlake, Ohio, Jacob is active throughout campus, joining many clubs and groups such as intermural sports, The JCU Paranormal Research Group, and a social fraternity. In his free-time he enjoys going to the gym and hanging out on the quad with a group of friends. While at John Carroll, he plans to continue studying hard and being involved throughout the community.
Devvin LaBarge is a biology major with a minor in Leadership and Exercise Science from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. She will be overseeing Pacelli Hall as the Senior Resident Assistant. Devvin sits on the executive board as the Advancement Chair for RallyCap, a JCU club which shares her love of sports with kids who are disabled. Also, she is the President of the Women’s Club basketball team. In her free-time she likes to run, play basketball, play the violin, and hang-out with friends. Upon graduation, Devvin plans to continue her studies and become a Physician’s Assistant.
Kristina Lustri is a Biology major from Waite Hill, Ohio. In high school, Kristina was a member of the National Honor Society, and participated in many clubs, extracurricular activities, and a variety of community services. Kristina continues to be outgoing at John Carroll. She participates in Stargazing Club, Home Buddies, Fantasy Gaming Club, Carroll Cinema Society, and the Pre-Health club. In Kristina’s spare time, she is a tutor and socializes with her friends. She rarely misses a day of fitness, participating in the Zumba classes or just working out at the gym. In the summer she volunteers at medical offices, and has served as a SWAT leader for the past two years. Kristina plans on pursuing a career in health care.
Jessica Neundorf is a Psychological Science major and Spanish Language minor. She is involved with some Student Union Programming Board (SUPB) events, Allies, and Psychology Club. In the future, she hopes to attend graduate school and hopefully obtain a PsyD.
Katie O’Connell is a Communications Integrated Marketing major from La Grange, IL. She is a radio DJ for WJCU on campus and serves as a Tour Guide in the Office of Admissions. She has been involved with different service programs such as the Carroll Ballers and Seeds of Hope and looks forward to exploring more of the programs and service events on campus during her junior year.
Nicholas Reis is a Business Management Major and Leadership Development Minor at from Ste. Marie, IL, which is four hours south of Chicago. Nicholas is a member of the Boler School of Business, is a Student Assistant for the varsity football team, and plans on joining the John Carroll Investment Club. Nicholas was also responsible for the idea of the first Military Appreciation Day that took place last football season. This past summer he completed an Internship with Bell and Gossett, a Xylem Brand in Chicago.
Connor Robinson is a communications major focusing on integrated marketing and minoring in leadership development from Mentor, OH. In high school, he completed five varsity letters in football, baseball, and track. He was also the student body president his senior year. Connor is continuing his third year of varsity football and is working on his second varsity letter. Connor hopes to remain involved in service and leadership past graduation in 2019.
Jerry Rostocil is a Sociology major with a concentration in Criminology Forensic Science from Eastlake, OH. He is minoring in the Leadership program here on campus. Jerry is a Football Student manager for the Blue Streaks and helps with spring sports as well. While serving as the financial chair previously in 2016, Jerry has taken a new role in 2017 as Vice President of the Resident Hall Association. He hopes to get more involved on campus with more clubs and with campus ministry. Outside of school, Jerry enjoys working security for the Cleveland Indians.
Julia Ruggiero is from Pittsburgh, PA, and majoring in Integrated Marketing of Communications with a minor in Leadership Development. At John Carroll, Julia is a Marketing and Publicity Director with Her Campus. She is involved with and advertises for the H.O.P.E (Helping Other People Exercise) club. Julia works on campus as a recreation desk employee. Back at home in Pittsburgh, she is a sales associate at The Rally House as well as running her own business as a Wellness Advocate for DoTERRA essential oils. She created the brand Campus Oils to teach about natural solutions and to share tips and tricks of how to use essential oils.
Amanda Smigel is a Child and Family Studies Psychology major from Kent, Ohio. On campus, she is a member of Chi Omega Fraternity, the Honor’s Program, and she is also involved in campus ministry. Following graduation, she plans to pursue a career in Child Life.
Haley Vinborg is a Marketing major from Mentor, Ohio. She plans to minor in Leadership and continue to develop as a young leader. Outside the classroom at JCU, Haley is member of the women’s soccer team. She volunteers on and off campus helping others around the Cleveland area. This past summer she had a Marketing internship to gain experience in the business world first hand. Haley’s dream job is to be head of the marketing department for a Cleveland sports team.
