Here’s what the inaugural cohort of A.C.E.S. had to say about their experience:
“2013 JCU Alumni Continuing Education Series has been a wonderful opportunity for me to renew my ties to JCU. The speakers and the contents have been very well done. I especially appreciate the alumni staff reaching out to us in such a professional and enjoyable manner. They are to be congratulated for all the work and creativity they have developed for alumni education. I am proud of the education I received at John Carroll University.” - Earl Youmell ’61
“The mini-class was a nice reminder/meditation to re-address my own practices both in asking for forgiveness and granting it. It was good to see all who attended and participated giving hope to the state of the JCU community and all other communities to which we belong.” - Maria Gorczya ’74
“The Alumni Continuing Education Series with speakers, Fr. Casey Bukala and Dr. Paul Murphy was informative, interesting and very thought provoking, especially the topic of forgiveness. These themes were a wonderful way to introduce alums to the continuing education series. We learned more about the Mission of John Carroll, the Papacy, Pope Francis and what might be forthcoming for Catholics and others as well. As it relates to the very powerful subject of forgiveness, the subject matter and interaction helped me to try to become a more forgiving person. I would encourage alumni to participate in future programs.” - Jim Mason ’60
“The profound effect a simple act of kindness and forgiveness was illustrated by Fr. Bukala in a series of stories, such as one in which a thief repented after swindling a kind and generous girl. We encounter God in others in our everyday life. Each day is a new opportunity to grow in faith. Who I am spiritually will change each day and never be completed until the last day of our lives when we will look into the eyes of Jesus.” - Jim Coviello ’51
“Forgiveness is for me, not for the other person. Forgiveness allows me to surrender to my heart-felt Love. Forgiveness made from that enlightened state allows me to let-go of the emotion, surrender to what is in my heart now, and move on with my life’s journey.” - Bob Valente ’69
“Having recently read the article “A code of ethics” in the John Carroll Magazine I was drawn to the inaugural ACES program by one word, “ethics.” Specifically I was interested in better understanding how best our business leaders might able to meet society’s expectation of ethical standards. What did I learn in the ACES program, and how might I apply it to my life? In four words, “The Power of Forgiveness!” - Dan Dreiling ’86
