Classical and Modern Languages and Cultures

The Department of Classical and Modern Languages and Cultures prepares students for success in a complex world. Students with translingual and transcultural competence excel in careers in business, law, medicine, education, and government. Through the study of languages and cultures at JCU and our programs abroad, students:

  • Engage in active learning through proficiency-based instruction and state-of-the-art technology that emphasize international experience.
  • Gain knowledge of cultural perspectives, products, and practices that enable them to understand the nuances of cultural diversity.
  • Develop effective communicative, critical, and analytical skills.
  • Prepare themselves to enter competitive markets or graduate and professional programs.

Consistent with the University’s mission, the Department of Classical and Modern Languages and Cultures is committed to developing students into responsible citizens of the world.
