For 125 years, John Carroll University has focused on graduating students of intellect and character in the Jesuit tradition of educational excellence. Located in the beautiful and safe Cleveland suburb of University Heights, our 60-acre campus is easy to navigate and offers state-of-the-art facilities, including the Dolan Center for Science and Technology, a newly renovated TV studio and media lab, and fitness centers for organized sports and recreation. We offer 52 distinct fields of study (majors) and a wide array of other academic concentrations that enrich our students and add depth and flexibility to their studies. Admission is selective, and focused on maintaining our excellent success rates for students graduating in four years.

JCU is a top academic university that is in a quiet suburban area, yet convenient to a large city. The University is near the city transit lines, so it is easy for students to get to shopping and downtown Cleveland. The park-like campus is lush with grassy quadrangles, tall trees, and colorful plantings, in a lovely neighborhood for students to enjoy while they focus on their studies.

John Carroll is a Jesuit Catholic university in the tradition of liberal arts education that is over 450 years old. The Jesuit focus on holistic education – educating the whole person in mind, body, spirit – has been imitated by many universities. We are a community of faith that welcomes the voices of all faiths and students that have a desire to share their talents and perspectives with others.

Our classroom environment is based on discussion rather than lectures. In most cases, classes are fewer than 25 students and no classes exceed 50 students. This personal attention and the opportunity to be an active participant in your education distinguishes JCU from other universities. You will work closely with faculty, learning from them and your fellow students in an environment of inquiry and discussion rather than simply through lecture and note taking. This method of education across your major and our core curriculum will prepare you for not only your first job, but for your career. We provide you the depth of studies in your major and the breadth of knowledge across a wide range of fields to ensure your ability to succeed and continually adapt and respond to our changing world.
