Tonya Strong-Charles is IMC’s executive director of media relations. She is responsible for the strategy, planning, and execution of comprehensive communications initiatives (internal and external) that enhance John Carroll University’s reputation. Reporting to the Vice President for University Advancement and working in concert with the Executive Director of Marketing and Creative Services, Tonya provides leadership to JCU’s media relations program, key University publications (including John Carroll Magazine and the University’s annual report), and advancement communications. She has an extensive background in television journalism, having reported and anchored in local markets and for the NBC network.
If you have a compelling story or an event to pitch or a publicity campaign to promote, your inquiry should begin with Tonya. Additionally, if you have been contacted by the media to speak as an expert on a topic, please call Tonya before giving an interview. She conducts media training and provides important advice for working with representatives from various types of media outlets (radio, television, newspapers, digital) .
Journalists must contact the media relations office first, before entering campus, unless a specific faculty member has granted a journalist permission to his or her classroom for special events.
