IER has a track record of success. For example, the fourth grade proficiency scores of long-term IER schools have shown significant improvement. Watterson-Lake, an IER school in the Cleveland Municipal School District, received the 2003 William M. Jones Excellence in School Management Award from the Harvard Business School Club of Northeast Ohio. The award recognizes outstanding examples of leadership and management within Northeast Ohio and established Watterson-Lake’s role as a model of success for other schools. According to Watterson-Lake principal Caren Geissinger, “IER has helped to shape the culture of our school. We are all about kids and making sure that they achieve.”

In 2006 the William M. Jones Award for Excellence in School Management was presented to another IER school, Thomas Jefferson Elementary School in Euclid. Citing the significance of the professional development model used by IER, principal Margaret Watson said, “Our student achievement, especially in the area of reading, has continually increased since IER has been here.  …  We credit IER with a lot of those results.”
