The  Student Health and Wellness Center provides access to the following clinics and programs:

Women’s Wellness Clinic                                                                                                                      A Women’s Wellness Clinic is offered once a month. The health practitioner examines students with gynecological concerns, performs breast exams, routine PAP testing, and all STD testing. Fees are based on a student’s income using a sliding scale. Certain preventive services may be billed to the patient’s health insurance. Covered under Title X, a student may not pay if they have no insurance or little income.  For questions or to make an appointment, please call the Student and Wellness Health Center at 216.397.4349.

Travel Clinic
The Student Health and Wellness Center offers a Travel Clinic for international travel. Cuyahoga County Board of Health manages the travel clinic for all groups. The clinic is usually scheduled on a weekday evening from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. The physician performs a routine physical exam and instructs students on the health implications they may face when traveling to the out-of-the-country areas, prior to receiving the vaccinations. There is a cost for the clinic and vaccinations.

Nutrition Program
There is a Nutrition program offered twice a month with Karin Palmer, Registered Dietitian and Nutritionist. Karin comes to the Student Health and Wellness Center on Friday afternoons from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. to see students with eating and nutritional concerns. Students can make an appointment by calling the Student Health and Wellness Center at 216.397.4349. There is no fee for this service.

Wellness Fair
The Wellness Fair is held in the Atrium of the Student Center each semester for the entire JCU community. All of the wellness presenters are free to participants. There is cholesterol, blood pressure and blood sugar screening; body fat content and bone density readings; massage therapy, skin care and dental hygiene; nutritionist and healthy food snacks; and wellness information from area organizations available to all attendees.

Eating Disorders Treatment Team
At John Carroll University, many students have concerns about their eating habits, exercise level, self esteem, weight, and body image. When theses concerns or behaviors become a problem, John Carroll has a team of professionals ready to help! A multi-disciplinary team is in place for this purpose. This team includes the University Counseling Center, Student Health and Wellness Center, and a Registered Dietitian. Appointments can be made with any of these offices by calling:

  • University Counseling Center – 216.397.4283 – The Center is comprised of Psychologists, Licensed Professional Counselors, and Psychology interns who provide confidential, professional, and free services to enrolled students including individual and or group counseling, and help with how to talk with friends when you are concerned about them.
  • Student Health and Wellness Center – 216.397.4349 – Services available include: Physician consultations, physical examinations, complete history, laboratory testing, and weekly monitoring of progress. There is a fee for physician and laboratory testing.
  • Dietitian – 216.397.4349 – A 30 minute consultation with a registered dietician and licensed nutritionist with follow-up as necessary is provided. This is a free service to enrolled students.

Free, Confidential HIV and STD Clinic
Health Professionals from the Cuyahoga County Board of Health and the Free Clinic will bimonthly test for HIV, gonorrhea and chlamydia (no blood taken).  This testing is confidential and free.

TB Testing Testing for tuberculosis is available at the health center for a charge. TB testing is done weekdays, except Thursdays, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
