The 2012 Japan Study Tour traveled to Kyoto, Osaka, Tokyo, and the northeast part of the country from May 22-June 10. This was the 5th study tour to Japan sponsored by JCU’s East Asian Studies program, and the theme for 2012 was, “Pop Culture in Times of Crisis,” because it included sites of interest to Japanese pop culture enthusiasts as well as several days of volunteering in the area affected by the 3/11/11 earthquake and tsunami.
The tour was led by Nakano Sensei of the Department of Classical and Modern Languages and Cultures and Dr. Long from the Department of Sociology and Criminology. Dr. Purdy from the History Department also team-taught the on-campus part of the course. Seven students and Dr. Malia McAndrew from the History Department partricpated in the trip.
The next Japan study tour is being planned for 2014.
