While an English major can be an end in itself, law is the career I have chosen, so I will speak to the utility of my English major in preparation for law school. I often tell prospective law students that English is the best discipline to study before law school. The numbers do not lie. Besides political science, English is the most represented major at my school. My studies in English gave me a firm grounding in reading and writing, allowing for a seamless transition into law school. I was just named Managing Editor of the Georgetown Journal of Legal Ethics. I have my English major to thank for providing me with the grammar and editing skills that won me the position. The professors that make up John Carroll’s English Department are second to none. I find myself constantly drawing upon their teachings.”
