With winter fully underway, the John Carroll University athletic department has announced details for special events including the 2014 Pot O’ Blue and Gold Party.

Pot O’ Blue and Gold Party
Saturday, March 15
7-10 p.m. | Tony DeCarlo Varsity Center
$40 if registered by March 1 | $50 after March 1

One of the premier fundraisers and a fan-favorite for the John Carroll University athletic department, the Pot O’ Blue and Gold Party returns and will be held from 7-10 p.m. on Saturday, March 15 inside the Tony DeCarlo Varsity Center.

Come out and join the John Carroll University athletic community for a spirited evening and all the fun the middle of March can bring.

The event includes food, beer/wine, Irish coffee and soft drinks. Fans can also enjoy traditional pub fare and the JCU Irish Nacho bar. Entertainment will feature live music from the “One More Pint Band”, “Murphy’s Irish Dancers”, the NCAA Division I men’s basketball conference tournaments on big screen televisions and a coaches corner including highlights of the inaugural men’s lacrosse season and what to look forward to when women’s lacrosse begins intercollegiate competition in 2015.

The Pot O’ Blue and Gold Party will also have raffle prizes where fans and supporters of Blue Streak athletics can win special prizes, game tickets and more. The JCU retro uniform sale is also back this year by popular demand.

Guests 21 years of age and older are welcomed at this event.

Track and Field Fundraiser
Thursday, January 16

The John Carroll University track and field team will be holding a fundraiser at the California Pizza Kitchen located inside Legacy Village.

The California Pizza Kitchen will donate 20% of sales to those who present the flyer found here to the Blue Streaks track and field program.

Cheer Alumnae Day
Saturday, January 18

Are you a men’s basketball, pep band or cheer alum? Come on back and watch this year’s men’s basketball team, pep band and cheerleading squad in action on Saturday, Jan. 18 when the men’s basketball team takes on Marietta at 2 p.m.

Alumni of the men’s basketball team are invited to the St. Francis Chapel with the team at 12:30 p.m. The men’s basketball team will have a tribute for the 2004 NCAA semifinalist team and will honor the 1964 team.

The men’s basketball team and cheerleading alums can enjoy hospitality in the Blue Gold Room beginning at 1:30 p.m. Additional the cheerleading alumnae are invited to watch this year’s squad warm up for the game and are encouraged to meet at the recreation desk at 1:15 p.m.

Alumni of the pep band are invited to meet in the music room at noon on Jan. 18 and are encouraged to bring instruments to join in with the band for the game.

John Carroll Day with the Cavs
Friday, January 24

John Carroll University’s dance team has been invited to perform prior to the Cleveland Cavs game on Friday, Jan. 24. The performance will take place approximately 7 p.m.

Women’s Basketball Alumnae Day
Saturday, January 25

Alumnae of the women’s basketball program are invited to dust off the shoes to take part in the JCU Women’s Basketball Alumnae Day.

Alumnae of the women’s program are invited to join the Blue Streaks when they take on Ohio Northern on Saturday, Jan. 25.

The alumnae game will take place on the hardwood of the DeCarlo Varsity Center at 12:30 p.m. with hospitality to follow in the Blue Gold Room.

Finally, alumnae can watch this year’s nationally ranked Blue Streaks take on the Polar Bears at 3 p.m.

Spotlight on Jesuit Basketball Game

Ignatian Heritage Week is a series of events designed to celebrate our heritage and our tradition of serving others.

The Blue Streaks will hold their Spotlight on Jesuit Basketball Game when the men’s basketball team takes on Mount Union at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 29.

Since the 2008-09 season the Jesuit Basketball Spotlight program has brought greater positive awareness and exposure to Jesuit education and its shared mission to thousands of people across the nation.

With over two million living alumni across the world, Jesuit institutions are proud to promote academic excellence, service and justice, and to encourage students to seek God in all things and be men and women for others.

Fall Sport Recognition
Wednesday, January 29

Additionally, at halftime on January 29, the athletic department will honor their student-athletes and coaches who earned athletic or academic honors this past fall.

Team highlights for the fall 2013 season included:

  • The women’s cross country team winning its first OAC title since 1991

  • The football team hosting its first NCAA Division III National Championship game in program history

  • The football team being ranked as high as ninth in the national polls and starting the season 9-0

  • The volleyball team returning to the OAC Tournament for the first time since 2010

  • The women’s soccer team was the OAC co-Regular Season Champion

  • The men’s soccer team advanced to the championship of the OAC Tournament for the third straight year

Student-athlete highlights for the fall 2013 season included:

  • Gabriella Kreuz earned All-American status with her 26th-place finish at the Division III Cross Country National Championship

  • Football’s Kresimir Ivkovic was named one of the 10 finalists for the prestigious Fred Mitchell Award

  • Brian Potocnik (men’s soccer) and Brody Zangaro (football) were Capital One Academic All-America selections

  • Brian Potocnik (men’s soccer) was the first Blue Streak to earn first team NSCAA All-Region honors in 10 years

  • Volleyball’s Kit O’Shaugnessy became the first Blue Streak ever to be tabbed the OAC Volleyball Freshman of the Year

  • Volleyball’s Sara Kaminski finished 11th nationally in digs per set

  • Women’s soccer’s Kay Akerly and Genny Goergen earned NSCAA All-Region honors

Coaching highlights for the fall 2013 season included:

  • Tom Arth being named the AFCA and D3football.com Regional Coach of the Year

  • Dara Ford and the women’s cross country staff being named the OAC Women’s Cross Country Staff of the Year

Community Day
Saturday, February 1

Members of the community are invited to attend John Carroll’s community day on Saturday, Feb. 1 when the Blue and Gold hosts Muskingum.

The athletic department has numerous activities lined up for members of the community.

  • Cleveland CYO basketball players gain free admission if they wear their uniforms

  • Free admission to those who bring winter hats, gloves or scarves to be donated to charity

  • Zeppe’s Special Delivery halftime contest to benefit the Fatima Family Center

  • The JCU cheer clinic

Also on Saturday, Feb. 1 the John Carroll University cheer squad will be holding their annual cheer clinic for youth cheerleaders ages 5-13.

Participants check on at the recreation desk at 12:15 p.m. and will learn their special routine from 12:30 p.m. – 1:45 p.m. The youth cheerleaders will perform on the court at halftime.

The cost is $15 per participant.

Participants who register by Jan. 22 will receive a complimentary t-shirt and snack.
