Richard R. Gaillardetz, Ph.D., Joseph Professor of Catholic Systematic Theology at Boston College, and President of the Catholic Theological Society, will present For the Love of the Game: Toward a Basic Theology of Sport on Thursday, October 10, 2013 at 7:00 p.m.

Christians are not to live in a hermetically sealed ecclesial vacuum. We believe that the Christian message has profound relevance to contemporary life. The Catholic Church has long insisted that human culture is a privileged medium for the divine. Yet, for some reason, theologians eager to find the divine in art and philosophy, have shied away from the subject of sport. The lecture will offer a rudimentary theological reflection on the deep spiritual dimensions of the human love of sport, both as participants and spectators.

In gratitude to John Carroll University for its continued courtesy to house the Society, the CTSA offers an annual lecture at John Carroll. The annual lecture is named after Dolores L. Christie, Ph.D. to honor her for her years of service as executive director to the Society (1996 – 2011).
