Each academic year, the John Carroll University Aging Studies Concentration hosts lectures and seminars by experts in the field of aging. Over the past several years, the program has hosted an Alzheimer’s disease Educational Event — an evening with Cleveland’s leading gerontologists — and workshops on counseling the elderly and their families. Many of these programs are made possible through a grant from the Cornelia Schurmann Foundation.
JCU Intergenerational Choir
In Spring 2013 and 2014, an intergenerational choir of JCU students, area residents, and people with early stage Alzheimer’s disease and their family members was formed. The purpose of the research study was to reduce Alzheimer’s disease stigma in college students through participation in an intergenerational choir with people with AD and their family members.
